Beaujolais
The birth of viticulture in the Beaujolais dates back to the Roman occupation, as for a great part of the French vineyard. However, it is only during the 17th century that viticulture was truly intensified. If the Beaujolais is widely known for its Beaujolais nouveau, one could not ignore the existence of the Beaujolais Villages and 10 Crus ( Brouilly, Chénas, Chiroubles, Côtes de Brouilly, Fleurie, Juliénas, Morgon, Moulin-à-Vent, Régnié, Saint-Amour ) that built up the reputation of the region around Gamay. The wish to rank the vineyard will in the end be achieved in 1936, after the obtaining of the first AOCs.
