Description

A rich and vibrant expression of a spectacular white Alsace Grand Cru

Offering a remarkable expression of the Alsatian terroir, the Grand Cru l’Altenberg de Bergheim from Domaine Marcel Deiss marks a great step in the life of the very talented winemaker Jean-Michel Deiss.

A terroir-forward white wine, the Altenberg Grand Cru de Bergheim 2003 also marks a return to the ancestral practices of the Alsace region. A "pure expression of terroir," this Grand Cru allows the taster to discover all the traditional Alsatian grape varieties that have been co-planted in a rare unsorted harvest.

A treasure of Alsace, with wines that have been renowned since the twelfth century, the Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim borders the medieval city of Bergheim, in the department of Haut-Rhin. Altenberg de Bergheim enjoys a fantastic location, at the heart of the geological fault of Ribeauville. Hard Jurassic limestone soils and Lias marls can be found here, along with poor and ferruginous clay-limestone soils. The Grand Cru Altenberg enjoys a particularly warm microclimate resulting from its southern exposure and its position away from the Vosges and the Rhine Plain. The grapes here ripen fully, with a presence of noble rot.

At the tasting, the Domaine Marcel Deiss Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim 2003 announces its presence through its great richness and aromatic power. Marked by a beautiful freshness, the nose reveals intense aromas of ripe fruit, with notes of citrus and exotic fruits, evolving hints of honey and vanilla. This Grand Cru wraps the palate with its deliciously creamy texture and melts in the mouth, while retaining a vibrant energy and vivacity thanks to its sustained acidity. The wine leaves behind a sensation of perfect harmony, expressing with great authenticity its grape varieties and its terroir of origin. A great white wine, the Altenberg de Bergheim 2003 by Domaine Marcel Deiss can be savoured now, but can also be kept until 2023-2033, evolving beautifully in the glass. A superb Grand Cru of Alsace, which should be opened the day before and served at a temperature of 10 ° with dishes like foie gras, chicken, cheeses and fruity desserts.
