Description
A classy and « sunny » Fronsac from an exceptional vintage
A vintage with quite a rough start, 2018 will nevertheless be remembered at Château Canon Pécresse as one of the greatest in the history of the property.
At the southern end of the Canon-Fronsac appellation, on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, Château Canon Pécresse is situated on hillsides exposed to westerly winds. This privileged location guarantees good ventilation, while the warm soils of limestone and fine clay allow for excellent water retention.
Since 2011, the famous winemaking consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt has consulted at the estate, and in 2017 Château Pécresse began its conversion to certified organic farming by eliminating the use of herbicides, and promoting greater aeration of the soils, as well as a diversity of microbial life in those soils.
Product of never-ending work and attention, the 2018 vintage demonstrates a triumph over the challenges posed by nature – challenges that included a significant threat of mildew.
The beautiful summer and long autumn made it possible for the grapes to reach perfect maturity in time for the harvest. The Merlot was harvested on September 27, 2018 while the Cabernet Franc was harvested on October 4.
Made from a blend of Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%), the Canon Pécresse 2018 is already showing the signs of an exceptional vintage. The wine displays great elegance, a controlled alcoholic power and silky tannins. The personality of Merlot is expressed with great precision and finesse. Cabernet Franc brings an exquisite mineral tension and savoury notes. A sunny, elegant and balanced Canon Pécresse.
