Description
The finesse and aromatic palette of a Tuscan red wine
The estate
Fattoria Poggio di Sotto is located in southern Tuscany, Italy. Founded in 1989, this estate is renowned for the high quality of its Sangiovese-based wines and is regarded as one of the best estates within the Brunello di Montalcino D.O.C.G. appellation.
Located on steep slopes at an altitude ranging between 200 to 400 metres above sea level, the 16-hectare vineyard is certified organic. The typology of the soil and the exposure differ according to the geographical position of the plots.
The array of soils, exposures and altitudes of the vineyard, combined with a strict selection of the best grapes and a rigorous vinification process, provide these wines with a rare aromatic richness and complexity that have made the Fattoria Poggio di Sotto famous.
The vineyard
Poggio di Sotto's 2018 Rosso di Montalcino is a Tuscan wine made from vineyards located in the Castelnuovo dell'Abate wine-growing area, in the Orcia river valley.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are sorted and harvested by hand and then sorted again upon arrival at the winery. The vinification takes place in oak barrels. Fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts, followed by long fermentations. The wine is aged for 24 months in 30hl barrels and then aged for a further 6 months in bottle.
The blend
Sangiovese (100%).
