Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Lieu-dit "Vers les Pins" Monopole 2022 from Château de la Chaize
Tasting
Color
The color reveals a deep ruby red hue with violet reflections.
Nose
Open and expressive, the nose unveils aromas of ripe, fresh fruit with notes of Burlat cherry, Morello cherry and cherry pits. A hint of freshly ground pepper accompanies a graphite minerality and subtle woody touches.
Palate
Generous on the palate, this wine features a fleshy mid-palate with powdery tannins. The power spreads harmoniously, revealing refreshing fruit and a mineral, savory, and refined finish, in a rich and controlled balance.
Food and Wine Pairings
This Brouilly pairs perfectly with grilled red meats, Herbes de Provence–roasted poultry, or a platter of fine cold cuts. It also goes very well with soft-ripened and bloomy rind cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
The Lieu-dit "Vers les Pins" Monopole 2022 is ideally enjoyed at a temperature of 15°C. A slight aeration in a decanter allows its complex aromas to fully reveal themselves. Drink until around 2028.
A Beaujolais Wine of Seductive Richness and Sapidity
The Estate
Created in 1674 by Jean-François de La Chaize d'Aix, brother of the confessor to Louis XIV, the Château de la Chaize spans 150 hectares of vines in the Beaujolais. Owned by the Gruy family since 2017, this exceptional estate is distinguished by its architecture designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart and André Le Nôtre, architects of Versailles. Classified as a Historic Monument since 1972, it is one of the largest wine estates in Beaujolais with its production of Brouilly on granitic terroir, combining royal historical heritage and traditional winemaking excellence.
The Vineyard
The lieu-dit "Vers les Pins" is located to the north of the lieu-dit La Chaize, in the heart of the Brouilly appellation. This monopole benefits from a southeast exposure on steep slopes with granitic soils. This privileged position allows the gamay noir to fully thrive and express the typicity of this exceptional terroir.
The Vintage
The 2022 vintage in the Beaujolais was marked by contrasting climatic conditions. A cool spring gave way to a hot, dry summer, promoting optimal concentration of aromas. The harvest took place under sunny skies, allowing the grapes to be picked at perfect ripeness while preserving beautiful freshness.
Winemaking and Aging
The parcel-by-parcel winemaking of the Lieu-dit "Vers les Pins" Monopole 2022 is carried out with 10% whole-cluster harvest and the use of indigenous yeasts. The 16-day maceration in stainless steel tanks is accompanied by pump-overs and rack-and-return, without punching down. Sulfiting takes place after malolactic fermentation and at bottling. The 6-month aging in foudre brings roundness and complexity to the wine.
Grape Variety
100% Gamay.
