A tribute to the Lady of Pomerol from an exceptional terroir
The estate
Located on the prestigious Pomerol plateau on the Right Bank, Château Le Gay spans 10.5 hectares in a single block, resting on clay-limestone gravel soils. The estate took its current name in the 19th century, following the division of the vineyard by the Greloud family. Initially acquired by Catherine Péré-Vergé in 2002, it is now run by Henri Parent.
The vineyard
The Château Le Gay vineyard enjoys a prime location on the Pomerol plateau, one of the most renowned terroirs in the appellation. The clay-gravel soils give the wines a remarkable structure and great aging capacity. This specific geological composition enables optimal water regulation and promotes the expression of Merlot, Pomerol’s signature grape variety.
The set
Château Le Gay offers, in a limited edition, the « la Dame de Pomerol » set, in tribute to Catherine Péré-Vergé, who took over the estate in 2002. Her son Henri Parent continues this tribute today.
Adam designed a numbered radiata pine (Spanish Basque Country) case, crafted with meticulous attention to joinery and with visuals echoing the 3 bottles of the 2020 vintage it contains.
The vintage
The 2020 vintage in Pomerol began with a mild, rainy winter, followed by early budbreak. A late-March frost episode required protective measures in the vineyard. Spring then proved favorable, with a sunny and warm May allowing for quick, even flowering. Summer was marked by hot, dry conditions from mid-July, with high temperatures and a lack of significant rainfall in August. These conditions encouraged optimal grape concentration, despite naturally limited yields. Harvest took place under good conditions, producing grapes of exceptional quality.
Winemaking and aging
Vinification entirely in new barrels. The entire process, from fermentation through aging, takes place exclusively in new oak barrels made from the heartwood of 300-year-old trees from the Tronçais forest. This approach gives the wine a remarkable tannic structure and exceptional aromatic complexity. Extended aging in new barrels allows the gradual integration of the wood components with the wine’s substance.
Grape varieties
Merlot, Cabernet Franc.
