Description
A generous and spicy Volnay Premier Cru wine
The estate
With a heritage of over 1,000 years of history, the Domaine du Château de Meursault is a benchmark among the greatest wines of Burgundy. Expanded by the Serre family at the beginning of the 19th century, the property has belonged to the Halley family since 2012.
The Domaine du Château de Meursault oversees a vineyard of nearly 65 hectares spread over more than 110 plots of land within the Premiers and Grands Crus cultivated exclusively on the Côte de Beaune in the communes of Aloxe-Corton, Savigny-Les-Beaune, Beaune, Pommard, Volnay, Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet The Château de Meursault is the owner of the prestigious Premier Cru "les Charmes Dessus," "Charmes," "Perrières" and holds the monopoly of the "Clos des Grands Charrons."
The vineyard
The 1er Cru Clos des Chênes 2017 from the Domaine du Château de Meursault is a Volnay wine made from a 2.63 hectare plot positioned on the top of the hillside of the eponymous village. The vines have an east/south-east exposure and lie on a soil composed of white marl.
Winemaking and ageing
After the harvest, the yield was sorted and the bunches destemmed. A second optical sorting was carried out using infrared cameras. The grapes were then placed in vats for 15-18 days for a pre-fermentation cold maceration of 5-6 days and an alcoholic maceration. Following a pneumatic pressing with separation of the juices, the wine was aged for 15 months in new barrels (30%) as well as in barrels of one or two wines.
Blend
Pinot Noir (100%).
