Nose
The aromatic profile opens with intense notes of white flowers and fresh lime, complemented by a subtle touch of dried herbs.
Palate
On the palate, it is long and generous, revealing flavors reminiscent of lime and fresh rosemary. The soft natural acidity provides balance, while the wine’s minerality adds depth and complexity. The finish is refreshing, with harmonious aromas that linger pleasantly.
Food pairing
This Estate Riesling 2024 pairs beautifully with fresh oysters, seared scallops, and salt-and-pepper squid. It also complements Asian-inspired dishes such as Thai beef salad, as well as lighter options like a tomato salad with pickled walnuts and fresh basil.
Serving and cellaring
The Estate Riesling 2024 is delicious to enjoy now, but it also rewards medium- to long-term cellaring, during which its aromas and complexity can evolve gracefully over time.
A fresh and precise Australian white wine from Eden Valley
The estate
Founded in 1847 by Joseph Gilbert, Pewsey Vale is the first estate in Eden Valley in South Australia. After a period of closure in the 1920s, the estate was revived in the late 1960s by Geoffrey Angas Parsons and Wyndham Hill-Smith. Now owned by S.Smith and Son and run by the Hill-Smith family for over 60 years, Pewsey Vale remains the only Australian producer dedicated exclusively to Riesling.
The vineyard
The Estate Riesling comes from a single vineyard in Eden Valley. The vines are planted on gentle slopes facing north, northeast, and northwest, benefiting from optimal sun exposure. The shallow sandy soils are interspersed with quartz gravel and slate, giving the wine its distinctive mineral character.
The vintage
The 2024 vintage began with a dry start to the season, encouraging rapid and early growth. Rainfall in late spring and early autumn supported average yields across the vineyard. The dry, mild summer accelerated ripening, while cool nights played a crucial role in preserving the grapes’ aromatic intensity and natural acidity. These conditions resulted in the classic, well-balanced character of an Eden Valley Riesling. Harvest took place between February 18 and March 4, 2024.
Winemaking and aging
The Estate Riesling 2024 was vinified in stainless-steel tanks using spontaneous fermentation, with native yeasts guiding the process. This method preserves the purity of this wine from Southern Australia and enhances the expression of its terroir.
Grape variety
This Australian white wine is 100% Riesling.
