Description
A dense and structured Western Cape red wine
The estate
Located in the Swartland region of South Africa, the Sadie Family estate was founded in 1999 by Eben Sadie and his brother and sister. After having travelled extensively in Europe, this passionate winegrower decided to revive the old vines of his native land while planting grape varieties from southern Europe adapted to the Mediterranean-like climate of the Cape. This atypical South African winemaker is today the charismatic face of the revival of quality South African wines. For more than two decades, his constant quest for excellent quality has been unparalleled and his wines are now sought after all over the world.
The vineyard
Palladius 2020 is a Western Cape wine produced from 17 vineyards mainly in Paardeberg but also in Piketberg and St Helena Bay, where soils are made up of old granite, sandstone and chalk formations.
The wine
The expansion of the estate's vineyard area and a careful selection of these new plots over the past five years have led to an increase in the quality of this Swartland wine, known for its refinement and finesse.
Winemaking and ageing
Following the harvest, the grapes were placed in a cold room as soon as they arrived at the winery. The following day, a careful selection was carried out before the whole bunches were pressed. The cloudy juice was then transferred to 725 litre concrete ovoid tanks and 400 to 1200 litre clay amphorae for natural fermentation at a constant temperature of 18 degrees. Aged in vats for 12 months before racking into large tuns and a further 12 months of ageing before bottling. Bottling was carried out without filtration.
