A Fresh, Peaty Japanese Whisky of Remarkable Richness
Akkeshi Distillery: Excellence in Modern Japanese Whisky
Founded in 2016 by Keiichi Toita, president of Kenten Co. Ltd, the Akkeshi distillery exemplifies the excellence of modern Japanese whisky. Located in Hokkaido along a coastal environment with climatic conditions similar to those of Islay, it combines Scottish traditions with Japanese terroir. Using pure water from the Homakai River and local peat, Akkeshi produces smoky whiskies aged in bourbon, sherry and Japanese mizunara oak casks. Its three warehouses, one of which is located on the bay, impart a distinctive marine character to its spirits.
Shoman: The 11th Release in the Solar Term Series
Shoman is the eleventh expression in the Solar Term series, based on the ancient Asian solar calendar of 24 seasons. This edition, whose name means "the prosperous season," pays tribute to the period corresponding to May, a time of nature’s full growth.
This blended Japanese whisky marks a first for Akkeshi with the predominant use of rum casks in its blend, complemented by bourbon, sherry, wine and mizunara casks. This innovative approach gives Shoman its unique tropical character, while preserving the smoky, herbaceous identity characteristic of the distillery. Bottled at 48%, this whisky is presented in an elegant case, reflecting the care given to this exceptional series that celebrates Japan’s natural cycles.
