An artisanal Japanese Blended Malt from Nagahama with fruity and chocolatey notes
The Nagahama Distillery, pioneer of artisanal Japanese whisky
Founded in 2016 in Nagahama in the Shiga Prefecture, this Japanese craft distillery produces Single Malts, but also Blended Malts under the name Amahagan, which is the reverse anagram of Nagahama. Owned by Nagahama Distillery Co. Ltd., it is located on the site of the former Roman Brewery and benefits from the pure water of Mount Ibuki and the proximity to Lake Biwa. This young house focuses on Blended Malts matured in Bourbon casks, avoids chill-filtration and added coloring, and develops complex flavor profiles with notes of orange, chocolate, and vanilla, that perfectly embody the new generation of artisanal Japanese whisky.
The Blended Malt Whisky Edition No.1, first creation of a worldwide series
The Amahagan World Malt Edition No.1 is the first expression of this unique distillery, which possesses the smallest stills in Japan, called "aranbics" in reference to their shape reminiscent of Arab architecture. This innovative blend combines Japanese whiskies with imported malts from abroad, creating a distinctive flavor profile.
Aged in Bourbon casks and presented at 47% ABV, this Blended Malt follows the house's natural philosophy: no chill-filtration and no added coloring. This approach preserves the aromatic integrity of the distillate and reveals the full complexity of Lake Biwa, known as Japan's largest freshwater lake. Thanks to its non-smoky character and accessible fruity aromas, it is particularly suitable for beginners and heralds a series of three "World Malts," demonstrating the international ambition of this young Japanese distillery.
