Description
Tasting notes and advice for Louis & Charles 15 Year Old 2004 by Isautier
Tasting
Nose
The nose opens with initial notes of cane sugar and mint, then reveals aromas of dried fruits and apricots. Woody and spicy notes gradually take over, with hints of vanilla, cardamom and clove. A touch of waxed wood completes this complex aromatic profile.
Palate
The attack on the palate is supple and delicate, marked by fruity, sweet and woody notes. Aromas of vanilla and citrus are also present, with a well-balanced complexity enhanced by woody and chocolatey nuances. The finish is very long and intense, characterized by a lingering freshness paired with notes of strong coffee.
Other characteristics
This blend is a rarity in the world of rum. Maison Isautier is one of the few distilleries in the world able to successfully marry an agricole rum and a traditional rum in a single cuvée. The product benefits from a PGI guaranteeing its Réunion origin.
An exceptional blend of Réunion rum aged 15 years
Isautier: the oldest distillery of Rhum de la Réunion
Founded in 1845 by brothers Charles and Louis Isautier, this Maison remains the oldest distillery of Rhum de la Réunion and the island’s oldest privately owned group still in operation. Based in Saint-Pierre, Isautier remains a family business now run by Cyril Isautier, carrying on more than 180 years of expertise passed down through six generations. One of the three remaining Réunion distilleries, it produces around one million bottles annually, combining traditional rums and infused rums. Its innovative spirit is notably reflected in France’s first solar air-conditioning system, bringing together technological modernity and artisanal excellence recognized internationally.
A rare blend of rums aged in ex-Cognac oak barrels
A tribute to the distillery’s founding brothers, this cuvée showcases Isautier’s unique expertise in the art of blending, boldly bringing together two distinct rum traditions: agricole rum made from pure cane juice and traditional rum made from molasses.
This Louis & Charles 15 Year Old 2004 represents a rare technical feat in the world of rum. This cuvée combines an agricole rum made from pure cane juice and a traditional rum produced from molasses, both aged separately for 15 years in fine-grain French ex-Cognac oak barrels. This double maturation allows each component to fully develop its character before being brought together through blending. Maison Isautier is among the few distilleries in the world to master the delicate art of marrying these two types of rums into a single harmonious cuvée. Bottled at 58% alcohol, this amber rum benefits from a Protected Geographical Indication attesting to its authentic Réunion origin.
