Decanter

Bichot's 0.17-hectare holding at the top of the slope has produced an evocative, lovely wine with forward pomegranate and red plum fruit, with hints of spice, smoke, and earth. The texture is silky and more approachable than the 2020 vintage at a similar stage. The vines are worked by horse and farmed organically, with everything done by hand—truly 'à l’ancien' in the best way. The results speak for themselves, as this is a delicious wine. It will be drinkable fairly early on but has the substance for long-term ageing.

Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Chambertin Grand Cru Domaine du Clos Frantin 2022 by Albert Bichot

Tasting

Nose
The nose stands out for its great complexity and elegance. Aromas of green tea and cigar tobacco intertwine harmoniously with notes of dried fruit, notably prune and date. A subtle touch of rosemary perfects this aromatic bouquet of remarkable richness.

Palate
The attack is both generous and deep, reflecting the typical power of the grand crus from the Côte de Nuits. The palate offers a remarkable balance between structure and finesse, with a silky texture that envelops the palate. The finish, of exceptional length, leaves a persistent and refined aromatic imprint.

Food and wine pairings

This Chambertin Grand Cru pairs ideally with characterful red meats, simmered or roasted game, as well as with mature cheeses with pronounced flavors.

Service and aging

To be tasted between 14°C and 16°C to reveal all its aromatic palette. This great wine has excellent aging potential and can evolve elegantly between 2029 and 2032, or even beyond depending on storage conditions.

A great Red wine from Burgundy combining refinement and complexity

The property

Founded in 1831, the Albert Bichot house embodies Burgundian excellence. Under the direction of Albéric Bichot since 1996, it extends over more than 100 hectares spread over six estates covering the entire Burgundy vineyard, from Chablis to Beaujolais. Known for its sustainable approach and its attachment to single varietals – pinot noir and chardonnay – the house values each terroir, particularly those classified as UNESCO World Heritage, through individualized management of its estates.

The vineyard

This Chambertin Grand Cru comes from a confidential plot of 17 ares resting on brown limestone soils. The vines, averaging 40 years old, benefit from an exceptional terroir that gives the wine all its depth and complexity.

Vinification and aging

The harvest is carried out by hand at perfect maturity. The vinification takes place in thermoregulated oak conical vats, with a maceration of about three weeks allowing a precise extraction of aromas and tannins. The wine is then aged between 14 and 18 months in oak barrels, 70% of which are new wood.

Grape variety

100% pinot noir.
