Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Domaine du Clos Frantin 2022 by Albert Bichot
Tasting
Colour
The wine shows a deep ruby hue with garnet-red highlights.
Nose
The nose unveils a rich aromatic palette of raspberry and plum, lifted by spicy notes and a hint of blood orange. Floral touches of rose and peony complete this bouquet, which evolves over time towards nuances of blond tobacco and tea.
Palate
The palate, medium to full-bodied, captivates with its supple, layered texture, at once suave and charming. Fleshy and finely structured, it stands out for a recurring minty thread that brings freshness and elegance, without ever veering into rusticity.
Food and Wine Pairing
This 2022 Clos de Vougeot will pair ideally with roasted meats or meats in sauce, such as beef, lamb, pork, game or duck. It is particularly well suited to a rib of beef, a saddle of lamb with herbs, or a dish of duck confit with apples. It also lends itself to pairings with medium-bodied to full-flavoured cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
Clos de Vougeot, Domaine du Clos Frantin 2022 is ideally served between 16 and 17°C. Opening the bottle in advance allows the wine to breathe fully and reveal its entire aromatic palette. This is a wine for laying down, able to evolve favourably over several years.
A Clos de Vougeot from the Côte de Nuits, Balancing Structure and Elegance
The Estate
Founded in 1831 in Monthélie by Bernard Bichot, the house of Albert Bichot has grown to become one of the great names of Burgundy. Now led by Albéric Bichot, it owns 107 hectares spread across six estates, from the north to the south of the region. As a producer-négociant, the house combines estate-owned vineyards with long-standing partnerships, and has a strong commitment to organic farming, now applied to five of its six estates.
The Vineyard
The Clos Vougeot, a historic walled vineyard of almost 50 hectares brought to prominence by the Cistercian monks, is shared among more than 80 owners. Domaine du Clos Frantin holds two plots there totalling 0.63 hectare, linking the lower and upper parts of the slope, which allows it to combine the richness of deep soils with the structure of the limestone soils at the top. The vines, aged 35 to 40 years, face east-southeast/east on brown soils of calcareous and calcic scree, and have been farmed organically with certification since 2012.
Winemaking and Ageing
Clos de Vougeot, Domaine du Clos Frantin 2022 is crafted according to a philosophy of measured intervention, with gravity-fed transfers that preserve the integrity of the grapes. The wine is aged in barrels for 12 to 18 months, refining its tannic structure while allowing the fruit and terroir to express themselves.
Grape Variety
This wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir.
