Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru 2023 from Albert Bichot
Tasting
Colour
This Côte de Nuits Grand Cru shows an intense ruby colour, characteristic of Pinot Noir grown on the most prestigious terroirs of Gevrey-Chambertin.
Nose
The nose is both delicate and intense, revealing aromas of red and black fruit mingled with floral notes of rose. With time, the bouquet evolves towards more complex nuances of spice, forest floor and leather.
Palate
The palate displays an imposing structure while remaining supple and silky. The balance is perfectly mastered, and the wine ends on a dazzling finish, carried by great length on the palate.
Food and wine pairing
This Grand Cru pairs ideally with finely prepared meats, roasted or in sauce, such as beef, lamb, pork, game or duck. It also goes very well with medium-bodied to full-flavoured cheeses. The estate particularly suggests a fillet of beef with marchand de vin sauce, a classic pairing that showcases the full aromatic richness of the wine.
Serving and cellaring
This Latricières-Chambertin 2023 is ideally enjoyed at a serving temperature of between 16 and 17°C. Its ageing potential is estimated at 7 to 10 years and beyond, allowing it to develop the full aromatic complexity typical of the great Grands Crus of the Côte de Nuits.
A Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Cru with a delicate yet intense expression
The estate
The House of Albert Bichot was founded in 1831 in Monthélie by Bernard Bichot. Based in Beaune since 1912, it is now run by Albéric Bichot, representing the sixth generation of the family. The estate draws on a vineyard of more than one hundred hectares spread across six properties covering the whole of Burgundy, from the Chablis region to Beaujolais. As a négociant, winemaker and maturer of wines, Albert Bichot combines family tradition with sustainable viticulture, with the majority of its estates now certified organic.
The vineyard
This Latricières-Chambertin is located on the slope of Gevrey-Chambertin, south of Chambertin, on the border of the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation. The clay-limestone soil, very stony, lies on a subsoil of marl and Bajocian crinoidal limestone, with a thin surface layer of silica from the scree of the combe Grissard. This natural poverty of the soil, said to have given the climat its name, favours limited yields and slow ripening, conducive to the expression of Pinot Noir.
Vinification and maturing
The 2023 Latricières-Chambertin is harvested by hand, with rigorous sorting of the grapes upon their arrival at the winery. Fermentation maceration takes place in temperature-controlled wooden vats for 18 to 21 days, allowing a gentle extraction of tannins and aromas. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 16 to 18 months, with 40 to 50% new oak, providing structure and aromatic complexity while preserving the expression of the terroir.
