Description
A full-bodied and expressive Greek red wine
The estate
Founded in 1995 by oenologist Angelos Iatridis and winemaker Makis Mavridis, Alpha Estate has established itself as an essential benchmark in Greek winemaking. Located in the Amyndeon region in Western Macedonia, the estate farms a remarkable vineyard and follows a strong parcel-by-parcel approach to highlight the uniqueness of each terroir. Still run by its founders and the new generation, Alpha Estate stands out for its sustainable viticulture and its Ecosystem range, developed to offer an authentic expression of the terroir.
The vineyard
The Xinomavro Ecosystem Reserve Vieilles Vignes Single Block "Barba Yannis" 2022 comes from a single block of old Xinómavro vines in the Amyndeon region. This appellation in Western Macedonia benefits from special climatic conditions, enabling the Xinómavro grape variety to fully express its character and aromatic complexity.
Vinification and aging
After destemming and gentle crushing, cold maceration begins. Alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts. This Greek wine is aged for 24 months on the lees in new French oak barrels, with regular bâtonnage. Additional aging of 12 months in bottle before release.
Grape variety
The Ecosystem Reserve Vieilles Vignes Single Block "Barba Yannis" 2022 from Alpha Estate is 100% Xinómavro.
