Characteristics and Tasting Advice for the Meursault 1er Cru "Perrières" 2022 from Armand Heitz
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a brilliant pale yellow hue.
Nose
The nose is intense and complex, expressing aromas of white flowers, fresh hazelnut and crushed stone. The expression remains elegant and refined, favoring minerality over fruity exuberance.
Palate
On the palate, the wine reveals a taut and mineral structure, with a linear and incisive character. The palate unfolds notes of citrus, white flowers and hazelnut, supported by a pronounced impression of crushed rock. The texture combines tension and finesse, with a medium body that emphasizes clarity and precision. The finish stands out for its remarkable length and the persistence of its mineral characteristics.
Food and wine pairings
This Meursault 1er Cru "Perrières" 2022 pairs perfectly with delicate fish in a light sauce, scallop carpaccio or even poultry in cream sauce. Its minerality and liveliness also make it an excellent companion for aged cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
This Meursault 1er Cru "Perrières" 2022 can be enjoyed now while also offering the cellaring potential to evolve favorably over approximately five to ten years.
An Exceptionally Mineral Meursault Premier Cru from Burgundy
The estate
Armand Heitz rebuilt the family estate starting in 2011, after nearly a century of interruption following the phylloxera crisis. Trained at the Changins engineering school in Switzerland and a qualified oenologist, he now manages around twenty hectares spread across some thirty parcels in Burgundy, mainly within the appellations of Chassagne-Montrachet, Meursault, Pommard and Volnay. The estate stands out for its commitment to agroecology and regenerative agriculture, integrating viticulture, cattle farming and permaculture within a comprehensive sustainability approach. Armand Heitz and his wife Anne-Astrid Martin jointly manage this estate.
The vineyard
The Meursault 1er Cru "Perrières" comes from one of the most prestigious climats of the appellation, located mid-slope in the commune of Meursault. The terroir is characterized by stony marl soils resting on a Jurassic limestone substratum, with low clay content and rocky outcrops at the surface. This particular geological composition gives the wines intense minerality, remarkable richness and precision. Perrières ranks among the most sought-after Premiers Crus of Meursault.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage in Burgundy was marked by a mild autumn and winter, followed by a spring and summer punctuated by four heatwave episodes. Despite limited rainfall, some timely showers in mid-August helped preserve the balance between ripeness and freshness. The hot and dry conditions significantly reduced fungal disease pressure, requiring two to three times fewer treatments than the previous year. The sanitary condition of the grapes proved impeccable. Harvest began at the end of August, earlier than usual, allowing fruit to be picked at optimal maturity.
Winemaking and aging
The Meursault 1er Cru "Perrières" 2022 is vinified following a low-intervention approach. After pressing in small crates to preserve the integrity of the berries, the must undergoes settling before alcoholic fermentation begins in barrels. Aging continues on the lees, with regular bâtonnage to enrich the texture. The estate’s philosophy favors the minimal use of external inputs, allowing the fruit and natural biological processes to express themselves fully.
