The estate
Daughter of one of the greatest winemaking families in Burgundy, Francine Picard took over the estate historically run by her father in the late 1990s. The Au Pied du Mont Chauve estate extends across the communes of Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin, at the heart of the finest Climats and terroirs of winemaking Burgundy.
With a desire for synergy between the land and the wines, Francine Picard cultivates her plots while respecting the principles of biodynamics and devotes herself with passion and the utmost attention to producing wines that reflect the identity of their terroir.
Sourced from a 110-hectare vineyard farmed using "agro-ecology", the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir of the Au Pied du Mont Chauve estate are recognised for their quality, precision and elegance.
Since May 2019, Antoine Lepetit de la Bigne, a specialist in biodynamic viticulture, has joined the team of this illustrious Burgundy estate as Technical Director.
The vineyard
Au Pied du Mont Chauve's "Le Charmois" 2020 red is a Saint-Aubin 1er Cru wine produced from a 2.30-hectare plot located on the hillside overlooking the village of Chassagne-Montrachet. Planted at an altitude of 250 metres, the vines, over 50 years old, grow on lean, limestone soils with an eastern exposure.
Vinification and ageing
Hand-harvested, the grapes are rigorously sorted on a sorting table before complete de-stemming. Traditional vinification in open, temperature-controlled vats. Ageing for 15 months: 5% in new barrels, 25% in large casks, 25% in one-wine barrels and 35% in two-wine and older barrels (Burgundy barrels).
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
