Decanter

Quite bracing acidity starts the frame before turning quite cool and focused with lots of liquorice, wet stone and tobacco plus some blackcurrant leaf and green pepper. I like the texture – smooth and sleek with a soft crushed stone accent on the finish. Ends cool and long, becoming a bit more fleshy with a succulent strawberry core. Nicely focused with precision and detail. 3.48pH. A yield of 29hl/ha.

Flowers, licorice, smoke, and black cherries nuances show with ease in the nose, and on the medium-bodied palate. Fresh, currants, and black cherries, with accents of herbs that express a vibrancy in their delivery. This will be perfect for near-term drinking while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. The wine blends 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2028-2038. 90-92 Pts

Bright blueberry and raspberry fruits, luscious and extremely impressive Blason. Love how mouthfilling and fragrant this is. The last time Cabernet Sauvignon has been dominant in Blason was in both 2015 and 2016. 3.48 pH. Harvest September 11 to 23. 35% new oak. Clear family relationship between the 1st and 2nd wine.

So much freshness in this bouquet, right from the first aromas, with notes of red berries, violets and mint. The velvety character of the attack heralds an elegant wine. It is supported by compact, slightly creamy tannins that preserve freshness, together with the acidic structure. An elegant, thirst-quenching wine that leaves you wanting more!

A deep, intense, beautiful red color. An intense nose with ripe fruit aromas. Juicy on the attack, broad and rich through the mid-palate, the wine builds to a powerful finish, continuously fruity, long and sappy. Blend: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot. Alcohol: 13.77% - pH: 3.48 - IPT: 70 (the highest in production).

Vinum

Ripe fruit, fine floral notes; on the palate, well-balanced, with tannins that are already well integrated and a delicate fruit character; medium length, red-fruit finish. Will be enjoyable soon.

Description

A Margaux Second Wine marked by finesse and smoothness

The estate
Located on the banks of the Gironde, the Château d'Issan stands as a benchmark within the Bordeaux vineyard. This historic estate spans 68 hectares of vines. Today, this classified growth is overseen by the Cruse family, present since 1945, and Jacky Lorenzetti, co-owner since 2013. Under the general management of Emmanuel Cruse, the château continues to shine through its excellence, combining a rich centuries-old heritage with highly precise viticultural practices.

The vineyard
Located in the heart of the Margaux appellation, the terroir benefits from a privileged geographical position on the 45th parallel, in immediate proximity to the Gironde estuary, which acts as a natural thermal regulator. The vines thrive on soils composed of well-drained gravel on the surface, resting on a clay-limestone subsoil. The estate places great importance on its environment, integrating practices that respect biodiversity and natural cycles. The year 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the Cruse family at the head of the estate.

The wine

Blason d'Issan is the estate’s Second Wine.

The vintage
The growing season unfolded with great consistency: bud break on March 30, even flowering on May 29, followed by mid-veraison observed on July 28. This smooth progression allowed the vine to develop without excessive stress. A hot and dry summer provided ideal conditions, leading to an early harvest of remarkable quality. Supported by soils capable of preserving freshness, the vine went through the summer with complete serenity. The slow and even ripening of the berries heralds wines of great purity, with vibrant aromatic expression, supported by elegant tension and refined depth.

Winemaking and aging
The creation of this wine begins with a manual harvest, carried out plot by plot, followed by a rigorous double manual and optical sorting. Vinification is conducted separately in 53 temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The technical team favors gentle pump-overs and carries out daily tastings to ensure a soft extraction of color, aromas, and texture. Aging then takes place over fourteen to sixteen months in barrels, 35% of which are new. Alcohol content: 13.77% vol.

Grape varieties
Blason d'Issan 2025 is the result of a blend of cabernet sauvignon (65%), merlot (32%), and petit verdot (3%).
