A mix of pear and lemon fruit highlights this tangy white. Vanilla and sweet spices chime in as this plays out on the lengthy finish. Ends with a mouthwatering impression. Drink now. 100 cases imported.

What a fantastic nose of apricot, Amalfi lemon and fresh pineapple! Rich and mouth-filling, but also gentle and subtle, this is a great white Beaune! Deep and velvety on the medium- to full-bodied palate, which is so polished and even. So delicious already, but there’s good aging potential, too. From a 1.88-hectare parcel with yellow marl soil that was the first place in Beaune that white wine production was recorded in the 13th century. Drink or hold.

Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Beaune 1er Cru "Clos Saint-Landry" Domaine Monopole 2022 by Bouchard Père & Fils

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a pale gold hue, subtly nuanced with green highlights.

Nose
The nose opens with delicate floral notes of acacia and hawthorn, mingled with aromas of white-fleshed fruits such as pear, peach and apricot. With aeration, it reveals a saline, stony minerality, complemented by touches of honey, toasted almond and citrus zest.

Palate
The attack is precise and full-bodied, supported by a lovely natural acidity. The mid-palate is ample and generous, offering a satiny texture. The finish, of impressive length, stands out with citrus notes and a refreshing saline minerality.

Food and Wine Pairing

This white wine pairs beautifully with raw seafood such as oysters or scallops, as well as with grilled white fish like turbot or sole. It also goes very well with light poultry dishes, mushroom or asparagus-based preparations, and can be enjoyed as an aperitif with goat cheese.

Service and Storage

For an optimal tasting experience of this wine from Burgundy, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of between 12 and 14°C. This wine can be enjoyed now but will continue to evolve until around 2055.

The Minerality and Precision of a White Wine from Beaune

The Estate

Founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard, the Bouchard Père & Fils house has established itself as a historic figure in the region. The estate now oversees a vast vineyard in the Côte d'Or, the majority of which is classified as Premier and Grand Cru. Committed to a strong environmental approach, the estate combines respect for the terroir with age-old expertise to produce wines that fully reflect the richness of their appellations.

The Vineyard

The Beaune 1er Cru "Clos Saint-Landry" is a 1.98-hectare monopole located on the southern edge of the Beaune appellation. Facing southeast, at an altitude of around 240 metres, the vines thrive on shallow clay-limestone soils resting on a subsoil of yellow marl. This particular geology allows for excellent water retention, offering ideal conditions for the historic cultivation of white grapes on this plot.

The Vintage

2022 offered conditions that favoured rapid, early ripening of the berries. The plot's specific geology allowed for even ripening, requiring particular attention to determine the ideal harvest date in order to preserve natural acidity while achieving optimal phenolic maturity.

Winemaking and Aging

The grapes are hand-harvested in small crates, followed by rigorous sorting. Pressing is carried out in two gentle stages. Fermentation begins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks before continuing in French oak barrels. The wine is aged for 12 to 14 months in barrels (20 to 25% new), with mechanical rotation of the barrels and no stirring of the lees (bâtonnage). It is then left to rest for a further 6 to 8 months in large oak casks on fine lees.

Grape Variety

Chardonnay (100%).
