Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Pommard 1er Cru Domaine 2022 by Bouchard Père & Fils

Tasting notes

Colour
With a deep red hue ranging between ruby and garnet, this wine displays a fine concentration.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet combines intense scents of ripe red fruit with wilder, animal notes. The whole is delicately underscored by subtle touches of oak, vanilla and toasted nuances.

Palate
On the palate, this red wine reveals itself to be robust and full-bodied, supported by a firm tannic structure. The generosity and warmth of the vintage are balanced by spicy, peppery notes, leading to a remarkably persistent finish.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with full-flavoured meats such as duck confit, a traditional beef bourguignon or feathered game. It will also enhance mature cheeses such as Comté, Beaufort or Époisses.

Service and storage

For optimal enjoyment, this wine is best served at a temperature of between 12 and 14°C. While it can already be enjoyed after a few years in the cellar, this Pommard 1er Cru Domaine 2022 has excellent ageing potential and should develop favourably until around 2035, provided it is stored lying down in suitable conditions.

An authentic and structured expression of a Pommard red wine

The estate

Founded in 1731 at the heart of Burgundy, the renowned house of Bouchard Père & Fils began its winemaking history in 1775 with the acquisition of its first vines. Located in Beaune, France, this historic estate today oversees an extensive vineyard. Since 2022, the property has been run by Artémis Domaines (the Pinault family), with Frédéric Engerer as CEO. Committed to a strong environmental approach, the team is aiming for full organic certification of its land by 2025.

The vineyard

This wine comes from two plots of Pommard Premier Cru covering 1.49 hectares. The vines on the upper part of the slope bring tension, while those lower down provide power and density. The typical Pommard terroir is characterised by clay-limestone soils rich in iron oxide, giving the earth its distinctive reddish colour. The vineyard is farmed according to organic principles.

The vintage

The year 2022 began with episodes of spring frost that affected yields. However, the rest of the growing season was marked by a particularly hot and sunny summer. These summer weather conditions resulted in berries with thick skins, offering fine concentration at harvest time.

Winemaking and ageing

The grapes for the Pommard 1er Cru Domaine 2022 are hand-harvested into small crates, followed by careful sorting of the bunches. Depending on the characteristics of the fruit, full or partial destemming is carried out. After gentle pressing, maceration lasts between 15 and 20 days. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation before being aged for 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels, 30 to 40% of which are new.
