Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Corte del Lupo Rosso 2023 by Ca' del Bosco

Tasting

Appearance
This wine reveals a ruby red colour of medium depth.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of juicy red fruits such as cherry, raspberry and redcurrant. The whole is delicately underscored by hints of herbs, cedar, violet flowers and a very subtle oakiness.

Palate
Medium-bodied, this wine offers a lovely freshness carried by a lively acidic framework. The tannins, moderate and silky, give it a particularly harmonious and balanced profile.

Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with roasted or grilled white meats, such as poultry or veal, as well as pork dishes prepared with Mediterranean herbs. It also goes very well with risottos, pasta with light sauces, mushroom-based dishes, or with fine charcuterie and semi-hard cheeses.

Serving and cellaring
The Corte del Lupo Rosso 2023 benefits from a minimum of four months of bottle ageing prior to release in order to perfect its balance.

A great red wine from Lombardy by Ca' del Bosco in the Curtefranca appellation

The estate
Founded in the mid-1960s by Annamaria Clementi in Erbusco, in Lombardy, Ca' del Bosco has become an essential reference of the Franciacorta region. Today run by her son, Maurizio Zanella, the estate spans approximately 180 hectares of certified organic vines. The estate stands out for its approach combining precision viticulture, technical innovation, such as the systematic washing of the grapes, and a strong connection with contemporary art. This prestigious brand embodies a true cultural luxury, raising its wines to the summit of international recognition.

The vineyard
The grapes used for this cuvée from the Curtefranca appellation come from eleven specific plots located in the municipalities of Cazzago San Martino and Passirano. The vineyard, whose vines have an average age of 31 to 32 years, is cultivated according to the principles of organic farming. Yields are particularly low, limited to 5,600 kg per hectare, which allows for excellent concentration in the berries.

The vintage
The 2023 year was marked by demanding weather conditions, beginning with a cold and rainy spring. Summer remained cool until the beginning of August, before giving way to a period of intense heat in mid-August. Welcome rainfall at the end of the month preceded a stable, summery September. These conditions allowed the grapes to be harvested in excellent sanitary condition, with fine concentrations of sugar and colour, between 11 September and 4 October depending on the varieties.

Vinification and ageing
To produce the Corte del Lupo Rosso 2023, the hand-harvested bunches are cooled, then carefully washed and dried before being destemmed by gravity to preserve the purity of the fruit. Maceration, under controlled temperature, lasts 21 days for the majority of the grape varieties and 22 days for Cabernet Sauvignon. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine is transferred into small oak barrels where malolactic fermentation takes place in the heart of winter. Ageing then continues for approximately 23 months, divided between oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, before bottling scheduled for August 2025.

Grape varieties
This wine is made from a blend composed of 41% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Cabernet Franc and 17% Carménère.
