Description
A Pinot Noir from South America with a harmonious and intensely mineral style
The estate
In 2004, Piero Incisa della Rocchetta had the ambition of bringing out the purest expression of the climate, microclimate and, more broadly, the terroir of Mainqué, in the Rio Negro region in Patagonia. To achieve this, he founded Bodega Chacra with a focus on biodynamism and organic farming. In this way, with the greatest respect for the environment and thanks to an unfailing ear and knowledge for nature, this daring enthusiast produces pure, delicate and floral wines with an intense minerality.
The name "chacra" designates a particular piece of land intended for pomology, that being the cultivation of edible fruits. Chacras are centres for vital energy and wine, through the way in which it accompanies moments of enjoyment and relaxation, embodies this idea of connection to one’s senses.
The vineyard
Bodega Chacra is rooted at the heart of the Rio Negro region upon lands borne from the junction between two rivers named Limay and Neuquén. They stretch into plains and a forest at an altitude of between 290 and 330 metres above sea level. There, the climate is windy and dry. Nevertheless, the irrigation canals dug by British settlers at the dawn of the 19th century make it, effectively, a "green lung" suitable for agriculture. The 24 hectares of vines at the estate are entirely made up of Pinot Noir.
The wine
A fine Patagonian wine, Sin Azufre Pinot Noir 2020 is a personal project for the owner: to make a wine without science, using only the eyes, nose, palette and logic as tools. To carry out this project, he uses organic and biodynamically harvested grapes in a special section of the Cincuenta y Cinco vineyard.
Vinification and ageing
After the manual harvests, the grapes are taken to the cellar to begin a most natural and precise vinification process. After the maceration, which lasts for 3 to 5 days, the grapes spontaneously ferment in 600-litre barrels for 15 to 21 days. To finish, the wine is placed into barrels which have already been used for 11 months to finish the aromatic development. Sin Azufre Pinot Noir 2020 was vinified in various receptacles: French oak barrels, concrete vats, stoneware pots.
The blend
Pinot Noir (100%).
The tasting
Sin Azufre Pinot Noir 2020 is a soft and balanced wine. Lively, pure and dynamic at the same time, it reveals an intense minerality and beautifully supple tannins.
