A fruity and delicate Beaune Premier Cru
The estate
Founded in 1750, Chanson is one of the most renowned houses in Burgundy. The estate is based in a bastion built in the early 16th century as a watchtower with walls 8 metres thick. Nicknamed "La Tour des Filles", it is now devoted to ageing the house's wines. Well known to lovers of fine Burgundy wines, Domaine Chanson offers limited-production cuvées that brilliantly express the character of the greatest wine villages of the Côte de Beaune.
The vineyard
Domaine Chanson covers 45 hectares of vines planted across the finest appellations of the Côte de Beaune (Santenay, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Beaune, Savigny-Les-Beaune, Corton, etc.), exclusively in Premiers and Grands Crus. Of these, Domaine Chanson devotes 1.8 ha to Chardonnay.
The wine
With a 4.3-hectare plot, Chanson is one of the leading owners in the mosaic of parcels that make up the Clos des Mouches. Neighbouring the Premiers Crus of Pommard, this Beaune 1er Cru "Clos des Mouches" from Domaine Chanson is ideally located on the slopes of Mont Saint-Désiré, a sun-drenched, south-east-facing terroir with very stony clay-limestone soil.
The vintage
Although 2019 began with a mild winter, spring was marked by fluctuating temperatures and heavy rainfall, which led to a great deal of millerandage. The scorching summer was punctuated by storms that proved a welcome relief for the vineyard.
Vinification and ageing
Gentle pressing is followed by traditional vinification. The wine is aged for 12 to 14 months in the 15th-century Bastion, with a moderate proportion of new barrels.
Blend
This Beaune 1er Cru "Clos des Mouches" 2019 from Domaine Chanson is made from 100% Chardonnay.

Appearance
The wine displays a lovely pale gold colour.
Nose
The nose combines aromas of lemon and white-fleshed fruit with subtle spicy notes.
Palate
Perfectly balanced, this vintage charms with its ample yet tight-knit texture, delicate spicy aromas and long finish.
Food pairing
This Beaune 1er Cru "Clos des Mouches" 2019 from Domaine Chanson pairs perfectly with foie gras and lightly seared scallops, as well as certain cheeses (Comté, Cîteaux).
