Description

A concentrated and delicate Beaune Premier Cru red wine

The estate

Founded in 1750, Chanson is one of the most famous estates in Burgundy. The estate is located in a watchtower-like bastion, built in the early 16th century, with 8-metre thick walls, nicknamed "La Tour des Filles" and now used to house the wines during the ageing period. Well-known by lovers of fine Burgundian wines, the Chanson Père & Fils estate offers secret vintages that brilliantly reveal the expression of the finest wine-producing villages in the Côte de Beaune.

Domaine Chanson covers 45 hectares of vines in the most beautiful appellations of the Côte de Beaune (Santenay, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Beaune, Savigny-Les-Beaune, Corton...), exclusively in Premiers and Grands Crus.

The vineyard

The Beaune 1er cru "Grèves" Domaine 2014  by the Chanson estate comes from a vineyard located in the most extensive Cru on the central hill of Beaune.

This Beaune wine is unique due to its terroir situated on a hill and benefits from optimal sunshine, ensuring the rapid ripening of the grapes. The name of this wine refers to its soil composed of "gravel", comprising sand and silt in the subsoil.

The vintage

The first few months of the year were marked by mild, rainy weather conditions and an episode of frost in mid-April. Although the mild weather in May lead toan even flowering period, these hot and dry conditions lasted until the end of spring. The summer was more variable, with a hailstorm at the end of July and a cool, wet month of August. The Indian summer that set in at the beginning of September salvaged the vineyard, ensuring optimum ripeness upon harvesting. Despite these shifting coditions, this vintage offers an alluring aromatic purity and a full structure.

The vinification and ageing

Fermentation in whole bunches. Aged for 17 months in the 16th century Bastion with a moderate proportion of new barrels.

The blend

Pinot Noir, 50% of which is a result of a massal selection of plans dating from 1955 and 1962 and 50% of clones dating from 1990.
