Appearance
The colour reveals a deep garnet hue, adorned with delicate highlights that reflect its beautiful evolution.

Nose
The bouquet proves remarkably complex, blending aromas of ripe black fruit and cherry with elegant notes of cedar and blond tobacco. With aeration, superb tertiary hints of undergrowth, truffle and subtle toasted nuances fully express themselves.

Palate
The palate offers a velvety texture supported by tannins that are both powerful and perfectly integrated. The balance between roundness and freshness is remarkable, leading to a long, flavourful finish with accents of spiced fruit and delicate oak.

The Estate

Located in the heart of the Bordeaux region, Château Carbonnieux ranks among the oldest wine estates in the area, its origins dating back to 1234 with the first vines planted by Ramon Carbonnieu. Having been shaped by Benedictine monks and later by the Ferron and Bouchereau families, the estate underwent a true modern renaissance under the impetus of the Perrin family from 1956 onwards. Today, Éric, Christine and Philibert Perrin, supported by the new generation, oversee this hundred-hectare vineyard, renowned for its environmental commitment and the production of exceptional grand cru wines.

The Vineyard

Planted as a single block on a magnificent gravel rise reaching around fifty metres in altitude, the vineyard flourishes within the Pessac-Léognan appellation. This true geological mosaic is made up of deep gravel, sand, clay and limestone, divided into 119 distinct plots. The estate stands out for its highly advanced agroecological approach, certified High Environmental Value. The elimination of chemical herbicides and insecticides in favour of biocontrol, manual soil work and the preservation of local biodiversity ensure grapes of impeccable sanitary quality.

The Vintage

1998 is recognised as a particularly successful vintage throughout the Bordeaux vineyards. Mild weather conditions were highly favourable to the growing cycle, allowing the berries to reach optimal ripeness and fine concentration before harvest.

Winemaking and Ageing

Crafted with great precision, this Château Carbonnieux 1998 benefits from rigorous plot-by-plot vinification, allowing the full character of each terroir to be expressed. The wine is then carefully aged in oak barrels, giving it its harmonious structure and delicate woody notes.
