Vinum

Slightly reductive, fresh, finely spicy, citrusy; delicate on the palate, balanced, with verve and solid drive, the acidity is gripping, supporting the fruit, long finish with peppery spice and citrusy echoes. Another success.

Decanter

Brilliant and zingy, a shot of lemon and lime with peach stone fruit. Cool and alive, not racy but nice persistence and tang. This has a nice personality with complexity and charm. A yield of 40hl/ha.

67% Sauvignon Blanc, 33% Sémillon. Cask sample. More of a varietal aroma, the Sauvignon Blanc to the fore. Slightly herbaceous edge. Light and tangy. Falls away on the finish. (JL)

Black cherries, flowers, and cigar wrappers create the perfume. The palate is medium-bodied; the fruits are bright and fresh, with an orange citrus note and a hint of cocoa that accompanies the cherries and red currants on the mid-palate and in the finish. The wine blends 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. 13% ABV. Drink from 2027-2040. 90-92 Pts

Le Figaro Vin

A fine, taut nose with sap notes, particularly pine sap. The palate is pure and dynamic, with lovely tension, provoking intense salivation thanks to its salinity, which carries through to a finish marked by citrus notes.

Vertdevin

The nose is reserved, yet offers tension and freshness. It opens with white flowers (acacia, apple blossom, honeysuckle), then ripe citrus (lemon, grapefruit), green apple, green plum, and tangy apricot. There is also a hint of wood, lactic notes, and a light toastiness. The palate is mouthwatering, tangy, and refreshing. It shows a sharp, citrus-driven acid line (lemon, lime) and green apple, crisp white peach, a pleasant grapefruit bitterness, combined with white flowers (acacia, linden, apple blossom), and a mineral, toasty touch. Good persistence on the finish, with vivid acidity.

Description

The vivacity and structure of a Graves white wine

The property

Founded in the 13th century, Château Carbonnieux is one of the oldest estates in Bordeaux, located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The vineyard extends over 92 hectares, with a balanced distribution between red and white grape varieties. Since 1956, the Perrin family, currently represented by Eric and Philibert Perrin, has been managing the estate, combining tradition and innovation. The château is renowned for its white wines, classified as Grands Crus de Graves, and for its rich history, marked by illustrious visits such as that of Thomas Jefferson.

The vineyard

Averaging 30 years old, the vines dedicated to Château Carbonnieux Blanc are planted on the great terroirs of Pessac-Léognan. The estate practices sustainable agriculture and precise parcel management, allowing the characteristics of each terroir to be best expressed. The HVE level 3 (Version 4) certification attests to the property's environmental commitment.

The vintage

The 2024 vintage was marked by cooler than normal temperatures and an early bud break at the end of March. The cool and wet spring was followed by a favorable summer with few heatwaves, offering particularly beneficial conditions for white grape varieties. The harvest took place from September 2 to October 8, 2024, allowing for an optimal maturity harvest.

Vinification and aging

Manual harvest with double berry selection (on the vine and sorting table). The grapes are cooled if necessary and slowly pressed under inert gas. Fermentation lasts an average of 12 days, carried out in barrels (225 and 400L) or in vats (30 and 50hl). Aging is carried out with 25% new wood for about 10 months with stirring.

Grape varieties

The Château Carbonnieux Blanc 2024 is a blend of 67% Sauvignon Blanc and 33% Sémillon.
