Château Couhins 2022

Dense color, complex bouquet; pronounced roasted notes, cherries, cassis, dark chocolate; straightforward palate, juicy, with noticeable tannins, silkily interwoven with ripe fruit, lots of breed and precision, fiery finish with lovely length. Can age.

Liquorice, aniseed and dried herbs on the nose. Supple and fruit-focused, but the tannins are a little too present, coating the mouth in a chalky, fleshy sensation. Deep dark core of fruit, liquorice, and toast. Focused but austere, with a tightened profile.

The 2022 Couhins is fabulous. Aromatic and vibrant, with more linear energy than size, Couhins is super-classic. In 2022, it is a bit richer than in most years, but its essential savory drive is still very much in evidence. The long finish is striking.

The blast of flowers in the opening salvo is just great. From there, the wine hits your palate with its creamy texture and layers of rich, plush fruit. The finish has real staying power, which is great because you’re going to want more of those juicy, chocolaty fruits, with their gentle touch of ginger and spice that lingers. The wine blends 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot. 2022 marks the first vintage certified 100% organic. Drink from 2027–2042.

Deep dark ruby garnet colour with an opaque core and purple reflections, delicate brightening at the rim. Fresh red heart cherries, subtle notes of cassis and nougat, inviting bouquet. Juicy, elegant, fresh acidity, fine supporting tannins, mineral, shows length, good ageing potential.

An estate that has struggled a little to reach consistency over the past decade, but it hits its stride in 2022. Ripe black fruits, cassis and bilberry, chalky tannins, tugs through the palate, a little rustic perhaps, not as sleek as some of its appellation siblings, but has lift and charm.

Slightly cloudy on the nose, but the palate, rich and enveloping, delivers piercing dark fruit before a succulent, satisfying finish.

Beautiful dark red, purple. Very aromatic nose—refined, fruity, pure, and subtle. Cherry undertone. Meticulous on entry, juicy mid-palate, with a supple body and plenty of flavor; the wine unfolds deep, savory, long, fresh, and even joyful. Incredible! This wine stands out for its lovely aromatic complexity, offering on the nose notes of black fruit, led by blackberry with subtle hints of raspberry. The palate, marked by freshness and lightness, reveals a pleasant minty character, perfectly balanced by fine, silky tannins. A delicate floral touch completes the whole, adding finesse. The gravelly and clay-limestone terroir, combined with the temperate climate of 2022, lends the wine rare elegance. This cuvée, already very harmonious, is ready to enjoy, offering delightful indulgence.

92-94 Barrel sample. The wine is powered with dark tannins and ripe black fruits. It has weight and and fine juicy flavors. The quality of this government-owned estate is definitely improving.
