Description
A great red wine from the Rhône Valley, generous and beautifully persistent
The estate
Dating back to the 16th century, Château de Beaucastel found new momentum at the beginning of the 20th century under the guidance of Pierre Tramier. His son-in-law, Pierre Perrin, gave the estate decisive impetus, while Jacques Perrin propelled its reputation far beyond national borders. Today, Jacques Perrin’s heirs passionately carry on this quest for excellence, making this family-owned property a benchmark among the great names of the Rhône Valley.
The vineyard
From a 30-hectare terroir, Le Coudoulet de Beaucastel is a Rhône Valley wine grown on Miocene marine molasse scattered with rounded pebbles. Close to the terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this soil stores heat during the day and releases it at night, encouraging an early awakening of the vine in spring.
Winemaking and aging
Manual harvesting, sorting upon arrival at the winery, heating whole bunches to 80 °C (skin), then cooling to 20 °C. Traditional maceration in concrete vats for 12 days. Draining of the free-run juice. Pressing in a pneumatic press. Blending of the grape varieties vinified separately after malolactic fermentation. This Côtes du Rhône wine is aged in large oak casks for 6 months.
Blend
This 2023 Coudoulet de Beaucastel red from Château de Beaucastel is a blend of grenache, mourvèdre, syrah, and cinsault.
