Château de Camensac 2016

Bordeaux - Haut-Medoc - Red Chateau de Camensac Chateau de Camensac 2016 1257/16
  • Parker : 90-92

A harmonious and powerful red wine from Haut-Médoc

Château de Camensac is a red wine produced in the Haut-Médoc appellation. This 5th Classified Growth of 1855 comes from a vineyard of 75 hectares planted with vines aged 35 years on average. The vines are planted in soils consisting of dense Gunzian gravel from the quaternary and fine Villafranchian gravel from the tertiary. The wine is matured in French oak barrels. The vintage 2016 consists of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot.

The year 2016 saw a winter that was mild and heavy in rainfall. The flowering occurred evenly thanks to a slight sunny period. The following summer was very hot and dry, so much so that the water reserves from the beginning of the year were depleted. The month of September offered a few showers that helped the vines, which resumed their maturation. The harvest was late with ideal weather conditions.

The Château de Camensac 2016, with its dark, bright and clear colour reveals a neat, straight nose with praline and cocoa bean aromas. After airing, fragrances of black pepper and powdered rose become apparent. In the mouth the attack is straightforward, marked by flavours of blackberries and raspberries uponsubtle woody notes. The tannins are fine and lend body to the mid-palate. This wine displays harmony and power before revealing a long finish with an aftertaste of red fruit.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2016 Camensac is an equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, picked from 27 September until 18 October at 42 hectoliters per hectare. There is a pastille-like purity on the nose: blackberry, briary and a light floral note coming through with time. The quality of the vintage shows through on the palate, which is very harmonious and demonstrates both excellent backbone and intensity. It builds in the mouth, maintaining plenty of freshness and with a mineral-driven finish. This is an excellent Château de Camensac and fingers crossed it will represent great value in the market once released.;2024 - 2045
