Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Château de Plaisance Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru 2016
Tasting Notes
Appearance
This wine reveals a beautiful intense golden-yellow hue, which tends to develop deep amber highlights as it ages.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is both delicate and complex, dominated by luscious scents of peach and apricot. It then unfolds into notes of honey, candied fruit and subtle citrus hints reminiscent of marmalade.
Palate
The palate offers a rich, unctuous texture. This concentrated matter is perfectly balanced by an underlying fine acidity, creating a harmonious equilibrium full of freshness. The finish stands out for its remarkable persistence, which extends the pleasure of the tasting.
Food and Wine Pairing
This great sweet wine will beautifully complement an apricot tart for dessert or a convivial moment. It also pairs wonderfully with savoury dishes, such as an avocado and shrimp salad or a fine roast poultry seasoned with herbs.
Serving and Ageing
To fully appreciate the Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru 2016, it is recommended to serve it chilled, at an ideal temperature of between 8 and 10°C. Allowing it to breathe slightly in the glass will let its complex bouquet express itself to the fullest.
Other Characteristics
This sweet wine stands out for its significant natural sweetness, with a residual sugar content reaching 120 g/L.
The Excellence of a Great Sweet Loire Wine at Château de Plaisance
The Estate
Located in the heart of the Anjou Noir in the Loire Valley, Château de Plaisance spans a vineyard of 25 hectares. While the land has a thousand-year history, the estate as we know it today truly took shape in 1960. Since September 2019, winemaker Vanessa Cherruau has been at the helm of the property. This estate stands out for its strong ecological commitment, holding both organic and biodynamic certification, as well as for a plot selection made up exclusively of great classified terroirs.
The Vineyard
The vines that give rise to the Quarts-de-Chaume Grand Cru flourish in the commune of Rochefort-sur-Loire. Around 35 years old, this Loire vineyard benefits from an ideal full south exposure and an oceanic climate that favours the development of noble rot. The vines draw their resources from complex soils composed of schist, sandstone, spilite and conglomerate. The entire vineyard is farmed with very light soil work and with the utmost respect for biodiversity.
Winemaking and Ageing
The making of the Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru 2016, an exceptional cuvée produced only in the best vintages, begins with an entirely manual harvest. This allows for the meticulous selection of shrivelled berries affected by botrytis. In the cellar, fermentation occurs naturally through the action of indigenous yeasts. The wine is then vinified and carefully aged for one year in barrels.
