Description
Tasting Notes and Characteristics of Château Ferrière 2015
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a deep, intense colour with ruby and garnet hues, reflecting its beautiful density.
Nose
The bouquet is particularly expressive, releasing intense aromas of ripe red and black fruit. Delicate floral notes intertwine with indulgent hints of cocoa, spice and toasted bread, derived from its time in barrel.
Palate
The attack is both dense and elegant. The palate reveals a rich, silky texture, supported by smooth, enveloping tannins. The balance is remarkable, leading to a lingering finish that extends the fruity, spicy and toasted flavours.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats, such as beef fillet or rack of lamb. It also goes very well with lighter game such as duck or pigeon, enhanced by a mushroom sauce, as well as with mature hard cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this 2015 vintage, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. With excellent ageing potential, it can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2035.
The Elegance of a Great Margaux Growth at the Heart of Bordeaux
The estate
Founded in the 18th century by Gabriel Ferrière, this historic estate in Bordeaux spans an intimate 20-hectare vineyard. Now led by Claire Villars-Lurton, Château Ferrière stands out as a true benchmark. This Third Growth Classified Estate is distinguished by its environmental commitment, being one of the rare estates to hold dual certification in organic farming and biodynamics. The history of this château is also marked by visionary female leadership spanning three generations, shaping wines of great finesse.
The vineyard
Located at the heart of the Margaux appellation, the terroir covers 20 hectares and holds organic farming certification. The vines, with an average age of 45 years, thrive on soils composed of deep gravel resting on a subsoil of limestone marl. This geological configuration ensures excellent drainage and brings beautiful freshness to the grapes.
The vintage
The year 2015 began with a wet winter followed by a drier period, allowing water reserves to be replenished. The mild spring encouraged uniform budbreak, followed by a rapid flowering in late May. The very hot summer slowed down véraison, but rainfall in late July revived ripening. The water stress at the end of the season ultimately allowed for excellent concentration. Harvesting took place from 16 September to 2 October.
Winemaking and ageing
The making of this wine is based on rigorous plot-by-plot selection. Traditional vinification takes place in wooden and concrete vats, with gentle extractions and controlled temperatures. The wine is then aged for 18 months in barrels, 40% of which are made of new French oak, bringing structure and complexity to the blend.
Grape varieties
The blend for this vintage is made up of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc.
