Château Gazin 2017

The nose is elegant and fruity, offering power, a fine texture and harmony. It reveals notes of ripe blackberry and ripe blackcurrant, with lighter hints of wild small blue fruits, alongside delicate touches of ripe strawberry, violet and Sichuan pepper, as well as discreet accents of camphor, spices and a subtle touch of nutmeg (in the background). The palate is fruity and balanced, with good definition, finesse, tension and precision, supported by a juicy, finely tangy framework. On the palate, the wine expresses notes of fleshy blackberry and fleshy blackcurrant, with a lighter suggestion of fleshy wild raspberry, joined by touches of fleshy/juicy blueberry, along with fine hints of toast, chocolate, caramelisation and a subtle touch of nutmeg. The tannins are elegant and well-managed.

Friendly cherry and plum notes lead the way, with light savory and tobacco hints trailing. Features a subtle echo of red licorice through the moderately juicy finish, mingling with the fruit and herb elements. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2030. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

Dark ruby in colour, with inky depths to this wine. This is a pretty classic Gazin, with a Left Bank dark fruit feel. They have done a good job of getting fruit definition and character, with spicy black pepper notes and firm tannins. This is another contender for a wine that you would not pick out as being a 2017, it has depth to the fruit and feels like it needs longer to settle into itself. Much improved over ageing.

Blueberry and plum aromas here with some flowers and hot stones, too. Complex. Medium body. Juicy fruit at the center of the palate. Soft, refined tannins and fresh acidity. Lovely complexity and focus. Drink in 2021.

95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample. Pretty deep crimson. Some marked evolution already. Quite gentle and sweet. Well-mannered, easy-drinking Pomerol which should be useful if not absolutely stunning. Acidity notable. Tannins are already knitting their way into the background. (JR)

The 2017 Gazin has a detailed and well-defined bouquet, with scents of blackberry, undergrowth, black truffle and a touch of lavender that gently unfold with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. There is a fine thread of acidity here, classic in style, with tertiary, slightly ferrous notes toward the harmonious and persistent finish. Multiple tastings reveal a Pomerol that is improving day by day in bottle, showing greater sophistication and harmony.

Expressive without much effort, you can easily find notes of flowers, cherries and wet earth. Soft, glossy and fresh, there is sweetness to the fruit, silk to the tannins, and a generous burst of cocoa-dusted red fruits on the finish.

Deep dark ruby garnet, purple reflections, delicate edge brightening, ripe plums, floral nuances, some nougat, a hint of dried figs. Juicy, elegant, freshly structured, well-integrated tannins, cherries and nougat on the finish, gastronomic style.

A blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the deep ruby/purple-hued 2017 Chateau Gazin offers loads of savory red fruits as well as some meaty, underbrush, herbal, and floral notes, medium to full body, a ripe, textured mouthfeel and outstanding length. It's already drinking nicely yet should easily evolve for 10-15 years.

Purple garnet with ruby highlights. Concentrated blueberry bouquet with hints of dark noble woods and wild cherries. On a second pass, black olives, a touch of violet and rosemary. On the powerful palate, massive, demanding tannins; a masculine body endowed with good reserves. A complex finish with pencil lead and graphite, ending with delicate astringency. A classic Gazin that asks its fans for patience—something to keep in mind here.

The 2017 Gazin is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It sings of pretty redcurrant jelly and black raspberry scents, plus hints of wild sage, tree bark, and fertile loam. Medium-bodied, the palate is delicately styled and refreshing, with fine-grained tannins and an understated, earthy finish.

You can sense an uplift in this great Pomerol from clay-rich terroir, with density, delicacy, and floral freshness.

A very complex bouquet that alternates between ripeness and freshness, with notes of truffle and Morello cherry. A spicy touch. On the palate, the wine is elegant, creamy, and endowed with silky, perfectly integrated tannins that carry the entire palate beautifully. A juicy structure ideally supports the aromatic expression right through to the finish. So much elegance and character! A fine success.
