Decanter

Bright, creamy, round and full. The texture here walks the line between being quite sharp and creamy with dense, mouthfilling, plump tannins. Lovely overall concentration with good weight on the palate and some dark chocolate and sticky liquorice aspects. I like the sculpting; it feels more muscular than some, with drive and vibrant energy. It’s bright with very clean fruit, so well worked. Easy to recommend.

James Suckling

This pleasing wine with nice character and excellent drinkability shows attractive blackcurrants, berries and hints of chocolate on the nose and palate. Medium body, integrated and juicy. Drink now.

Vinous

Neal Martin

The 2021 La Fleur Peyrabon has a very fine bouquet of blackberry, bilberry and crushed iris that blossoms in the glass with fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, quite saline in the mouth with gentle grip toward the finish. No, not one of the better-known Pauillac wines, but this has plenty to offer in a more challenging vintage.

Vertdevin

The nose is fruity and offers concentration, elegance and good definition. It reveals notes of boysenberry, blueberry and, more subtly, crushed small black fruits, combined with touches of fleshy/pulpy strawberry as well as fine hints of black tea/infusion and Bourbon vanilla. The palate is fresh and offers minerality, a fresh backbone, elegance, a certain harmony and a touch of concentration. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fresh/pulpy blackberry, fresh blackcurrant and, more slightly, violet, combined with touches of fresh raspberry as well as hints of toast, tonka bean and fine hints of sweet spices, with a discreet hint of black tea and a subtle hint of caramelized almond. The tannins are well-managed.

Description

The structure and finesse of a fine Pauillac red wine

The estate

Situated in the heart of the Pauillac appellation, Château La Fleur Peyrabon is an estate that boasts a great personality. On the left bank of Bordeaux, this property has since 1998 been brilliantly managed by Patrick Bernard, who has made it a point of honour to produce elegant and refined wines that reflect the unique qualities of this great terroir.

The vineyard

Château La Fleur Peyrabon is a Pauillac wine that stems from an almost 5-hectare vineyard. The vines are 20 years old on average and are planted on sandy gravel topsoils upon a clay subsoil, a great Médoc terroir.

Vinification and ageing

Manual harvesting. The grapes are transferred using a vibrating trailer, destemmed and optically sorted, followed by crushing and vatting. The vinification process is carried out in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel vats. Average maceration lasts 21 days. The presses are always separated into barrels. Part of the wine is placed in barrels when it is run off. The wine is aged for 14 months in barrels (50% new wood).

The blend

Château La Fleur Peyrabon 2021 comprises a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
