A Pessac-Léognan wine combining power and elegance

The estate

The Château La Louvière, located in Léognan within the Pessac-Léognan appellation, is a wine estate of remarkable historical richness. Founded in 1310, it was transformed into a modern vineyard between 1510 and 1550 by Pierre de Guilloche. In 1620, it was entrusted to the Carthusian monks, who established its winemaking reputation. Acquired by André Lurton in 1965, the château was carefully restored and is now classified as a Historic Monument. The estate, still under the management of the Lurton family, is renowned for its exceptional White wines and Red wines.

The vineyard

Covering 67.26 hectares, the Château La Louvière vineyard thrives on the characteristic terroirs of Pessac-Léognan, composed of deep gravel soils and clay-limestone subsoils.

The vintage

The year 2024 was marked by cool weather and significant rainfall (+ 60% compared to the average). The hot and dry month of August was ideal for ensuring optimal grape ripening.

Winemaking and aging

After manual harvesting, whole-bunch winemaking (20% of the total volume) is carried out in several types of vessels: wooden vats, 500-liter barrels, and terracotta amphorae. Long maceration and gentle extractions. Aged for 12 months in barrels (40% new) and 15% in terracotta amphorae.

Blend

65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon
