Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Lagrange 1997
Tasting
Colour
The wine displays a deep ruby hue evolving towards garnet, with subtle brick-red highlights at the rim.
Nose
The bouquet reveals aromas of blackcurrant and black fruit, harmoniously interwoven with tertiary notes of undergrowth, blond tobacco, delicate leather and sweet spices.
Palate
Balanced and elegant, the palate offers a delicate texture supported by supple, perfectly integrated tannins. It all extends into a beautifully persistent finish.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs wonderfully with fine red meats such as entrecôte bordelaise, slow-cooked dishes like roast leg of lamb, or white meats served with mushrooms. It will also enhance aged hard cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate Château Lagrange 1997, serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C, after opening it at least an hour in advance or gently decanting it. This wine has now reached full maturity and is ready to drink.
The elegance and freshness of a great Saint-Julien wine
The estate
Although the estate's origins date back to the Middle Ages, it was in the 18th century that Château Lagrange truly took shape as a wine estate. Located on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, this Troisième Grand Cru Classé en 1855 enjoyed a rich history before its spectacular revival. Since 1983, the property has been owned by the Japanese group Suntory, under the stewardship of the Saji family. Combining Japanese rigour with Médoc tradition, the estate stands out for its constant pursuit of precision, its respect for the environment and its wines that marry power with harmony.
The vineyard
The largest estate in the Saint-Julien appellation, the vineyard extends over a single contiguous plot of around 118 hectares. The vines grow on two gravel ridges with varied exposures, composed of gravel and pebbles over a clay-limestone subsoil. Benefiting from a temperate oceanic climate, the estate practises precision viticulture, incorporating sustainable methods and a partially organic approach to preserve this exceptional terroir.
Winemaking and ageing
Following an entirely manual harvest and rigorous berry sorting, the winemaking is carried out with great precision. Château Lagrange 1997 was then aged in the traditional manner in oak barrels, refining its structure and enriching its aromatic palette.
Grape varieties
This blend is made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
