Description
The complexity of a great red wine from Saint-Julien
Reigning over an exceptional terroir on the left bank of Bordeaux, Château Léoville Las Cases is one of the most iconic references of the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation. The property is often referred to as "Premier des Seconds Crus" (or the "First of the Second Growths").
The very sunny 2011 has produced one of the greatest vintages of Château Léoville Las Cases. The weather conditions of the year allowed the fruit to achieve a fantastic level of phenolic maturity in time for the harvest.
The Grand Vin de Léoville du Marquis de Las Cases is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (76%), Merlot (12%) and Cabernet Franc (12%), harvested mostly from vines located in the Clos Léoville Las Cases, in the direction of Pauillac.
At the tasting, the Grand Vin de Léoville du Marquis de Las Cases 2011 from Château Léoville Las Cases displays a dark and intense colour. Noble and sophisticated, the aromatic bouquet is also brilliant and pure. The nose reveals notes of crème de cassis, blackberry, vanilla and beautiful mineral notes. The nose also exhales notes of cedar wood, typical of the great fine wines from the Médoc. The palate is full-bodied, with ripe and complex tannins.
Considered one of the finest achievements of its vintage, the Grand Vin de Léoville du Marquis de Las Cases 2011 of Château Léoville Las Cases can be enjoyed now, while also offering a superb ageing potential over the next 2 decades.
