Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Robert M. Parker, Jr.

Fully mature, this nice chunky, fleshy wine displays notes of jus de viande, roasted herbs, plum sauce, black currants, and sweet cherries in a medium-bodied, savory, fruit-forward style. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.

Wine Spectator

James Molesworth

Shows the pebbly, slightly austere character typical of the AOC, with taut red currant, damson plum and lilac notes stretching out over a tangy iron edge. A light savory echo on the finish, and fully mature. -- Blind 2000 Bordeaux retrospective (December 2015). Drink now through 2018. 17,000 cases made.

Wine Enthusiast

Roger Voss

With its fine, ripe tannins and immediately attractive acidity, this is a wine which looks set to develop relatively fast but with style.

So youthful now with lots of thick spicy fruit. Still tight but loads going on. Thick and powerful. A little four square. But there. Serious.

Deep red-ruby. Medicinal black cherry, shoe polish and mint on the nose. Fairly intense but cool flavors of cassis, mint and shoe polish are supported by a firm spine. Finishes with broad, dusty tannins. Showing well today. Very St. Estephe.

This was probably better 5 years ago. Meaty, masculine and earthy, the wine is firm, medium bodied and shows a hint of bright, cassis in the finish. Drink up as it is not going to improve from here.

A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc aged 15 months in 30% new French oak, the 2000 Château Ormes de Pez is fully mature, if not a touch tired, with amber-tinged darker fruits, leafy tobacco, leather, and earthy goodness on the nose. It's medium-bodied on the palate, with a supple, layered mouthfeel, ripe and mostly resolved tannins, and a good finish. Drink this complex, satisfying effort over the coming decade. Drink 2026-2036.

Weinwisser

Deep purple-violet color, dense at the core. A delicate bouquet scented with cherries and violets, with a hint of rose and a subtle note of wild raspberry. On the palate, fleshy, with finely outlined tannins for a St-Estèphe, well-balanced; peach pit in a sweet, ripe, fruit-driven finish, again marked by cherry. A terrific wine that somewhat recalls the also very successful 1989 vintage.

01: Barrel sample (17/20): Deep purple-violet, dense at the core. Delicate bouquet of cherries and violets, a hint of rose, and a fine wild raspberry note. On the palate, fleshy; for a St. Estèphe, fine tannin definition; well balanced; peach pits in the sweet, ripe, fruit-driven finish, again marked by cherries. Great wine, it somewhat recalls the equally successful 1989! Shortly before bottling in early summer 2002: Intense cherry bouquet, mixed with red currant and lilac, very complex and powerful. A fleshier, rounder, almost creamy palate, with a soft texture. A full, plush St. Estèphe with a subtle leafy note in the aromatic finish; still, excellent potential, it easily earns 17/20 points. 17/20 2005 – 2015

A complete wine, beautifully mature, with accomplished Médoc classicism.

Rich and full-bodied, with lovely roundness and a smooth style, this wine is very approachable and wins you over with its volume.

Jean-Marc Quarin

Jean-Marc Quarin

Dark, intense color with slight development. Aromatic nose, fruity with truffle notes. Very fruity on the palate, sleek, with a somewhat firm structure. The finish tightens and ends austere. Lacks charm for the vintage. Blend: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Aged with 20% new oak barrels.
