Description

The richness of an exceptional Margaux wine

The estate

Château Palmer is a star in the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of the Bordeaux region. With its beginnings in biodynamic viticulture commencing in 2009, Château Palmer chose to convert the entire vineyard in 2014. After having built its legendary story on vintages that have become mythical, Château Palmer continues to write its history under the direction of the talented Thomas Duroux.

The vineyard

Benefiting from an exceptional terroir located in the immediate vicinity of the Gironde estuary, Château Palmer comprises an unusual grape composition in the Médoc, with a strong emphasis on the Merlot variety, which appears alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.

The vintage

The wet and cool conditions at the beginning of spring led to a late budburst. The stormy episode along with hail on 11 May affected the vineyard without having any impact on the quality potential of the harvest. The dry and sunny conditions from June onwards favoured a good flowering. The sunshine and mild summer weather, with no thunderstorms or heatwaves, allowed the vineyard's quality potential to develop and ensured a good veraison. However, the lack of water had an impact on certain terroirs, increasing the concentration of the grapes as well as their aromatic potential. September and October combined ideal conditions and enabled the grapes to reach an optimal ripeness level. The grapes harvested from 23 September onwards were ripe, healthy, delicious and concentrated. Exceptional in its elegance, precision and finesse, this Château Palmer 2009 enters the legend of the greatest vintages ever by the estate.

Vinification and ageing

Due to the high temperatures, the grapes sent to the winery are cooled in order to control the fermentation temperatures. The extreme attention paid to the selection of the batches, the precision of the vinification and the perfect mastery of the blending have enabled each parcel to reveal all the authenticity of the exceptional terroir that saw them thrive.
