Description

The aromatic complexity of a gourmand and precise Pauillac

The estate
A 2nd Classified Growth of Pauillac, the magnificent Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande shines bright on the left bank of Bordeaux. In 2007, the Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande estate turned a new page in its history when it was purchased by the Rouzaud family, who also own the prestigious Maison de Champagne Louis Roederer.

The vineyard
The Pichon Longueville estate comprises 90 hectares, 73 of which are planted to the vine. The soils, composed of gravel outcroppings upon a clayey-sandy subsoil, are home to vines aged 35 years on average. The vineyard is managed with sustaineble viticulture and biodynamic practices on 28 hectares.

The vintage
Temperatures above seasonal averages at the start of the season enabled early budding. A cool spring and hot summer punctuated by light rain allowed the fruit to go through a consistent veraison and reach an ideal stage of ripeness in time for harvest in September.

The winemaking
Plot-by-plot vinification. Gravity-fed vatting. Tapered tanks with double thermo-regulated walls.

The ageing
Ageing in barrels for 18 months. 60% new barrels of medium long toast, traditional racking "a l’esquive", fining with egg whites.

The blend
Cabernet sauvignon (71%), merlot (23%), cabernet franc (6%).

The tasting
Notes of cedar wood, cocoa and cream charm the nose in a pure and intoxicating bouquet. After some aeration, the Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2019 reveals notes of blackcurrant and peony. The aromatic structure then pours forth notes of spices and praline. The attack is straight-forward and the palate quite even. The gourmet and saline finish stretches out and lingers long on silky and precise tannins.
