Tasting Notes and Advice for Château Tour de Pez 2015

Tasting

Color
The color displays a deep ruby red hue with violet highlights, reflecting fine concentration.

Nose
The nose reveals a complex bouquet combining red and black fruit aromas (blackcurrant, redcurrant, cherry), enhanced by spicy and earthy notes. Nuances of mocha, licorice and vanilla from barrel aging harmoniously round out the whole.

Palate
On the palate, this wine seduces with its generosity and medium- to full-bodied profile. The attack shows a fine density of black fruit, while silky, well-present tannins elegantly shape the palate. The finish is long and mineral, lingering on spicy notes and a pleasant freshness.

Food and wine pairings

Château Tour de Pez 2015 pairs perfectly with grilled or roasted red meats, especially entrecôte à la bordelaise. It also matches very well with game, herb-crusted lamb, as well as dishes featuring wild mushrooms and truffles. Aged hard cheeses are also an excellent choice.

Serving and cellaring

Château Tour de Pez 2015 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 15 and 16°C. Decanting for one to two hours allows the wine to fully reveal its aromatic complexity. This vintage can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve until around 2028.

An elegant, structured Saint-Estèphe

The estate

Founded in the 17th century and acquired in 1989 by the Bouchara family, Château Tour de Pez has undergone a remarkable revival, driven by major investments both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Vintage after vintage, the estate has established itself among the reliable names of the Saint-Estèphe appellation thanks to carefully crafted, precise and consistent wines.

The vineyard

The Château Tour de Pez vineyard enjoys a prime location in the hamlet of Pez, at the heart of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. The plots lie on Girondine gravel soils offering excellent drainage, as well as clay-limestone marls that provide structure and minerality. The vines average around twenty-five years old, ensuring excellent concentration in the grapes. The proximity of prestigious neighboring estates attests to the exceptional quality of this Médoc terroir.

The vintage

The 2015 vintage in Bordeaux was marked by contrasting weather conditions. After a mild winter, spring brought cool temperatures before a prolonged period of heat and drought from mid-May to mid-August. The hot, dry summer encouraged optimal concentration in the grapes, while timely rains in late August helped refine ripeness. Harvest took place under sunny skies, yielding generous, well-balanced berries.

Vinification and aging

The Château Tour de Pez 2015 harvest was carried out by hand with rigorous double sorting, first in the vineyard and then at the winery. After complete destemming, parcel-by-parcel vinification was conducted in traditional wooden vats and in thermoregulated conical stainless-steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation took place partly in barrels and partly in tanks. Aging lasted fifteen months in French oak barrels, 40% of which were new, allowing the oak aromas to integrate harmoniously.

Grape varieties

Merlot (majority), Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.
