Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Château Yvonne 2024

Tasting

Appearance
The wine displays a beautiful pale yellow to light gold hue, enhanced by subtle green highlights.

Nose
The bouquet reveals aromas of lemon accompanied by light notes of linden.

Palate
The attack is broad and reveals flavourful notes of white fruits. The finish stands out with fresh acidity, a pleasant bitterness and a highly mineral profile, all underlined by hints of lemon, honey and a delicate toasted nuance.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood, shellfish or grilled fish served with a butter and lemon sauce. It will also enhance white meats in cream and mushroom sauce, refined vegetarian dishes or goat cheeses.

Serving and cellaring

Château Yvonne 2024 is a wine crafted to evolve favourably in the bottle. Its structural characteristics give it significant cellaring potential, allowing it to age gracefully over the years under proper cellar conditions.

The pure expression of a great Saumur chenin

The estate

The Château Yvonne estate, located in Parnay in the heart of the Loire Valley, was re-established in 1997 by Yvonne and Jean-François Lamunière. Since 2007, winemaker Mathieu Vallée has been at the helm of the property. The estate now covers 16 hectares of vines and stands out for its early commitment to environmentally friendly viticulture, having obtained organic certification as early as 1997. Renowned for its artisanal approach, the estate produces authentic wines that express with great purity the richness of their limestone terroirs.

The vineyard

This wine from Saumur comes from a 4-hectare area spread across eight plots located in the communes of Parnay, Turquant and Montsoreau, along the river. The vines, aged between 15 and 50 years old, thrive on clay-limestone soils resting on the famous Turonian limestone rock known as tuffeau. The vineyard is farmed organically, with entirely manual soil work. No synthetic products or chemical weedkillers are used, treatments being limited to nettle infusions, Bordeaux mixture and elemental sulphur.

The vintage

The 2024 vintage was marked by weather conditions offering a temperate climate together with good rainfall. This growing cycle produced a vintage whose character recalls the style of the 2012, 2013, 2007 and 2008 vintages.

Winemaking and ageing

The Château Yvonne 2024 harvest took place by hand in small crates between 30 September and 15 October, with at least two sorting passes per plot to pick the berries at optimal ripeness. The yield is 35 hl/ha. After a three-hour pressing and one to two nights of settling in vat, fermentation takes place in barrels with indigenous yeasts until spring. Ageing lasts a total of 15 months: three-quarters of the wine rests in 225-litre barrels (of which 20% are new oak) and the remaining quarter in 500-litre stone amphorae on fermentation lees for 12 months, without any bâtonnage. Finally, the wine spends three months in vat before bottling scheduled for December 2025, during a waxing moon.
