In organic conversion, the estate will be certified with the 2023 vintage. The 2021 Lune d'Argent from Clos des Lunes reveals a Sauvignon Blanc-driven Bouquet with aromas of lemon, pear, herbs, spring flowers and acacia with lactic hints. Juicy and elegant, lively with a delicate core of fruit, it finishes fruity and fresh.

Racy and fresh, featuring tightly focused chamomile, quinine, yellow apple and white peach notes, with finely beaded acidity. Lingering, mouthwatering finish. Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now through 2025.

Full of crisp fruit, this wine from an estate in the Sauternes region is perfumed and tangy. Citrus flavors are lively and will fill out. Drink from 2025.

Decanter

Green peas and crisp green apples on the nose with citrus aromas. Juicy and alive, exotic pineapple, apricot and almost sweet lemon juice aspects, nothing too bitter or harsh at all, round with a gentle creaminess that comes in towards the mid palate while staying quiet lean and direct. Much less severe and acidic than I was thinking, really balanced and harmonious and so enjoyable to drink with a slate and mineral finish. A top value pick!

James Suckling

An attractive, perfumed white with expressive minerality and structure, this has a fresh character of stone fruits and citrus with white flowers and crushed stones. Medium-bodied with vivid acidity. 70% semillon and the rest sauvignon blanc. Drink or hold.

The 2021 Lune d'Argent has a taut and focused bouquet, with touches of Granny Smith, petrichor and stem ginger all delineated and gaining intensity. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity, very poised. Just a hint of bitter lemon lends tension, segueing discretely into a spiced finish. Excellent.

Honeysuckle, white peach, spice, ginger, and pineapple with a dab of vanilla smell great. And, the Palate is even better with all of its creamy, fresh, green apples and tropical fruits. The wine is a Blend of 70% Semillon with 30% Sauvignon Blanc. Due to the frost, close to 50% of the harvest was lost. Drink from 2024-2029.

Bright and racy, with crushed citrus and tart melon-like aromas and flavors, the 2021 Lune D'Arget Blanc is medium-bodied, has high yet integrated acidity, and a clean, crisp finish. It's going to drink beautifully over the coming 4-6 years, if not longer.

The Wine Independent

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

A blend of 70% Semillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc, the 2021 Clos des Lunes features delicate, fragrant scents of lemon tart, yuzu, and chalk dust, with a touch of white pepper. The light-bodied palate is refreshing and zesty, with a compelling steeliness on the finish. A real thirst quencher!

Le Figaro Vin

On the nose, lovely aromas of lychee and cut grass dominate. On the palate, lychee returns, both in the aromas and in the texture, on a creamy background of syrupy peach. The finish, carried by passion fruit, takes you to a tropical island.

This wine is already bottled. Yellow and bright colour. Moderately intense nose, with ripe fruit. Delicious palate, smooth and succulent, where the wine glides over ripe fruit aromas and a hint of white meat. Nice length. Blend: 70% Sémillon, 30% Sauvignon. Alcohol content: 12.5°. Yield: 25 hl/ha.

Description

An aromatic, pure and lively Bordeaux dry white wine

The estate

In 2011, Le Clos des Lunes embarked on an ambitious adventure with a specific goal in mind: to produce legendary dry white wine on the exceptional Sauternes terroir. Such is the challenge taken on by the iconic Olivier Bernard and his family, owners of Domaine de Chevalier in Léognan, who, with great passion and enthusiasm, have worked towards elevating Clos des Lunes among the finest Bordeaux dry white wine references, in the land of sweet wines.

The vineyard

The Clos des Lunes vineyard comprises 60 hectares in the hilly land of Sauternes. The vines are 35 years old on average and are planted on a tapestry of soils, each contributing to the signature style of the estate's wines. While the deep Sauternes gravels confer a powerful expression, the freshness that characterises the gravelly soils on a clay-limestone substrate in Bommes is combined with the finesse and elegance of the red soils in Barsac.

Vinification and ageing

Manual harvest in small crates by successive selections. Slow pneumatic pressing. No destemming or maceration. Gravity settling in a cold room and regular stirring of the lees. The wine is aged for 6 months in barrels (25%) and vats (75%).

The blend

Sémillon (70%)

Sauvignon (30%).
