An exceptional Priorat from a schist terroir
The estate
An emblematic name among the great wines of Priorat, Clos Mogador traces its origins back to the 12th century. The estate turned a new page in its history in 1979, when Isabelle and René Barbier acquired this then-neglected terroir, with the ambition of restoring this Spanish vineyard to its former glory. The couple chose to name their estate “Clos Mogador” as a tribute to Élisabeth Barbier, René Barbier’s aunt and the renowned author of the celebrated work “Les gens de Mogador”.
A pioneer, René Barbier crafts rare cuvées that magnify the mineral and fruity expression of Catalonia.
The vineyard
Clos Mogador’s vineyard is rooted in the emblematic llicorella terroir, the distinctive schist of Priorat that gives the wines their signature minerality. Located at 350 meters above sea level in Gratallops, the estate practices regenerative viticulture that respects the environment and the terroir.
