Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Clos Venturi "Le Clos" 2023
Tasting
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is complex and vibrant, blending scents of red and black fruits such as fresh cherry and blackberry. It is enhanced by floral notes of peony, maquis herbs like myrtle and thyme, along with hints of green pepper and subtle smoky nuances.
Palate
On the palate, this wine reveals a silky, streamlined texture supported by delicately powdery tannins. Its natural power is perfectly balanced by a remarkable mineral freshness, leading to a long and vertical finish.
Food and wine pairings
This great red wine pairs wonderfully with refined southern cuisine. It will be an ideal match for grilled or roasted meats such as a veal chop, milk-fed lamb with herbs, as well as fine Corsican charcuterie and wood-fired grilled eggplant.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate Clos Venturi "Le Clos" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of around 17°C. This wine can be enjoyed in its youth but will continue to evolve favorably in the cellar until approximately 2033.
The elegance and mineral freshness of a great red wine from Corsica
The estate
Born from the separation of the finest terroirs of the historic Vico estate in 2005, Clos Venturi now stands as an essential reference in Corsica. Located in Ponte-Leccia, in the heart of the island's mountains, this property of about 25 hectares is run by Jean-Marc and Emmanuel Venturi. These passionate winegrowers cultivate a demanding philosophy, certified in organic and biodynamic farming. Far from maritime influences, the estate stands out for its determination to showcase indigenous grape varieties through highly precise single-parcel cuvées, reflecting the unique and wild identity of their high-altitude terroir.
The vineyard
The vines used for this cuvée thrive in the center of Corsica, on high-altitude hillsides located between 300 and 500 meters. This singular terroir, composed of poor and highly draining granitic soils, benefits from a privileged south-eastern exposure. Isolated between the mountains and sheltered from direct maritime influence, the vineyard enjoys a continental climate with wide temperature swings. The estate is farmed according to the rigorous principles of biodynamics, encouraging deep rooting and a slow, balanced ripening of the grapes.
Winemaking and aging
The Clos Venturi "Le Clos" 2023 harvest is carried out by hand with meticulous sorting. The berries, partially destemmed, undergo a long, gentle infusion rather than a heavy extraction. Fermentation begins naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. The wine then benefits from a patient aging of about 18 months, allowing the tannic structure to refine while preserving the brightness of the fruit and the pure expression of the terroir.
