Smooth, silky and wonderfully round, it offers savoury notes of ripe figs.
Food and wine pairing
This port pairs beautifully with desserts based on almonds or red berries, as well as with dark chocolate. It also enhances blue-veined cheeses, aged cheeses, or savoury dishes such as spiced roast duck.
Serving and cellaring
Ready to drink today, this 10 Year Old Tawny does not require decanting. It is best served at a temperature between 12 and 16 ºC. The bottle should be stored upright, away from light and at a constant temperature. Once opened, it is enjoyed at its best within two to three months.
The timeless elegance of a great Port by Croft
The estate
Founded in 1588, Croft is the oldest Port wine house in continuous operation. Located in the prestigious Douro Valley, in the heart of the Duriense region, this historic brand has stood the test of time by combining tradition and innovation. Now led by Adrian Bridge within the Fladgate Partnership group, the estate draws on an exceptional heritage to produce wines of remarkable consistency. Renowned worldwide for its excellence, the house continues to craft iconic cuvées that reflect the full richness of its terroir.
The vineyard
The grapes come largely from Quinta da Roêda, a true jewel of the estate located in Pinhão. This 109-hectare vineyard, essential to the making of this Port, stretches across steep slopes overlooking the Douro River. The vines, some of which date back to the late 19th century, are planted on schist soils that provide excellent drainage while retaining the moisture needed during arid summers. This unique configuration allows for slow and even ripening of the berries.
Vinification and ageing
Extraction is carried out gently thanks to innovative robotic technology that reproduces the delicate pressure of traditional foot treading. Fermentation is then arrested by the addition of grape spirit. The ageing of this 10 Year Old Tawny takes place in neutral oak casks of around 630 litres, already seasoned by multiple uses. This long oxidative ageing allows the wine to slowly develop its complex aromas without being dominated by wood.
Grape varieties
This wine is made from a blend of multiple traditional grape varieties from the region, interplanted within the oldest parcels of the estate.
