Description

The Structure and Balance of a Dry Loire White

The Estate
In 2018, Ivan Massonnat, a seasoned connoisseur of fine wines, took over Domaine Pithon-Paillé, founded by Jo Pithon. Renamed Domaine Belargus, this Anjou estate now covers 24 hectares farmed entirely biodynamically. The estate stands out for its parcel-based production, drawn from rigorously selected crus, lieux-dits and monopoles, guided by the authentic, mineral expression of Chenin Blanc, the flagship grape variety of the Loire.

The Vineyard
The Rouères cuvée comes from a plot of nearly 3 hectares, located on one of the three historic sites in Anjou named in the founding decree of the Quarts-de-Chaume appellation. Enjoying a south-east exposure on the slope of this prestigious terroir, the plot lies on poor, stony puddingstone sandstone soils that absorb the heat of the day and release it at night, promoting optimal ripening of the grapes.
