Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Riesling Grand cru "Schlossberg" 2022 from Domaine Bott Geyl
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a bright, pale yellow hue, enhanced by delicate green highlights.
Nose
Intense and complex, the nose exudes aromas of fresh citrus fruit such as lemon and grapefruit, harmoniously blended with notes of white flowers and a mineral hint of flint.
Palate
The attack is clean and vibrant. The palate stands out for its precision and crystalline tension, offering a very pure mineral backbone that stretches into a long, saline and savoury finish.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs beautifully with seafood, such as fish carpaccios or terrines, smoked or grilled fish, and noble shellfish like lobster. It is also a perfect match for pike quenelles with miso sauce or Japanese specialities such as sushi and sashimi.
Serving and ageing
For optimal enjoyment, it is recommended to decant this Riesling Grand cru "Schlossberg" 2022 before serving. This age-worthy wine needs two to three years to open up and will continue to evolve in the cellar until around 2042.
The purity and minerality of a white wine from Alsace
The estate
Born of the union of two winegrowing families in 1926, Domaine Bott Geyl is located in Beblenheim, in the heart of Alsace. Now run by Jean-Christophe Bott, the estate covers 18 hectares spread across a mosaic of 75 plots. A pioneer with a deep respect for its environment, the domaine has been certified organic and biodynamic since the early 2000s. The winemaker follows strict principles, including adherence to the lunar calendar, to craft pure, precise wines without artifice that faithfully reflect the richness of their terroirs.
The vineyard
This Alsace wine comes from the prestigious Grand Cru Schlossberg, located in the villages of Kientzheim and Kaysersberg. The vines thrive at altitudes of between 200 and 300 metres on very steep slopes facing south and south-east. The terroir is made up of friable, sandy-clay granitic soils that are extremely free-draining. Farmed biodynamically with controlled yields, this poor yet mineral-rich soil gives the grapes exceptional concentration and tension. The grapes are harvested by hand.
Winemaking and ageing
The Riesling Grand cru "Schlossberg" 2022 is crafted according to a low-intervention philosophy in order to preserve the authentic expression of the terroir. After gentle pressing and settling, fermentation takes place with minimal inputs. The wine then undergoes careful ageing, often extended on fine lees in stainless steel tanks or large neutral foudres.
