Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Viré-Clessé Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 from Domaine Cordier Père et Fils
Tasting
Appearance
This white wine reveals a brilliant pale gold hue, enhanced by delicate golden highlights and a beautiful brightness.
Nose
Highly expressive, the bouquet reveals aromas of orchard fruits such as white peach and pear, intertwined with notes of citrus and white flowers like acacia. A chalky minerality underlines the whole, sometimes enriched with subtle touches of exotic fruit.
Palate
The palate offers a full and silky texture, perfectly balanced by a fine acidic structure. It unfolds with delicious fruity notes, supported by a remarkable mineral tension that stretches into a long, citrus-tinged finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine pairs wonderfully with seafood such as shellfish or fine fish. It also beautifully complements white meats in creamy, mushroom-based sauces, as well as mature cheeses like goat's cheese or Comté.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully enjoy this Burgundy wine, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 11 and 13°C. It can be enjoyed young for its freshness, but will continue to evolve favorably in the cellar until around 2034.
The Elegance of a Great Viré-Clessé Chardonnay from Domaine Cordier Père et Fils
The Estate
Founded in 1945 in the heart of the village of Fuissé, in the Mâconnais area of Burgundy, Domaine Cordier Père et Fils is an essential reference in the region. Now managed by Christophe Cordier, this family estate oversees a fragmented vineyard of 31.5 hectares spread across more than 120 plots. Dedicated exclusively to Chardonnay, the estate stands out for its demanding quality standards, hand harvesting, and firm shift towards organic farming and biodynamics, revealing the true essence of its terroirs.
The Vineyard
The grapes come from a small plot of about one hectare within the Viré-Clessé appellation. Aged between 40 and 60 years, these old vines thrive at an altitude of 240 to 270 meters on stony clay-limestone slopes, benefiting from south and east exposure. The vineyard is farmed according to organic and biodynamic principles. Soil work is carried out using horses to avoid soil compaction, and the vines are trained using a specific arched pruning method to control yields.
Winemaking and Aging
The creation of this Viré-Clessé begins with hand harvesting followed by rigorous sorting. Whole clusters are gently pressed before being transferred by gravity into suitable cellars. Fermentation starts naturally through indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged on lees for 8 to 10 months in neutral oak barrels, with limited lees stirring to preserve its tension. Finally, it rests for about 4 months in stainless steel tanks before light filtration and bottling without fining.
