Description

Characteristics and Tasting Recommendations of the Grand Vin Blanc 2023 from Domaine de Baronarques

Tasting

Color
The color displays a pale yellow hue with delicate green highlights.

Nose
The bouquet reveals a complex aromatic palette combining white-fleshed fruits and candied citrus. Floral notes of white flowers are accompanied by buttery and vanilla touches, enriched by nuances of honey and roasted almonds.

Palate
The attack is distinguished by its liveliness and tension, unfolding a silky and ample texture. The woody framework remains discreet, allowing for a harmonious balance between fruit and wood. The finish expresses a lovely freshness punctuated by citrus zest, hazelnut, and a subtle minerality enhanced by a saline touch.

Food and Wine Pairing

This white wine pairs perfectly with grilled noble fish, shellfish, poultry in cream sauce, or aged goat cheeses. It also elegantly accompanies Mediterranean dishes with iodized flavors.

Serving and Cellaring

The Domaine de Baronarques Grand Vin Blanc 2023 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 10 and 12°C. A slight aeration in a decanter can reveal its full aromatic complexity.

The Finesse and Mediterranean Character of a White Wine from Languedoc

The Estate

Acquired in 1998 by Baronne Philippine de Rothschild and her sons, Domaine de Lambert, renamed Domaine de Baronarques, spans 40 hectares in Languedoc, at Saint-Polycarpe. Today owned by Camille Sereys de Rothschild, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, this estate benefits from an exceptional terroir located between 250 and 350 meters of elevation on clay-limestone soils. Its uniqueness lies in the confluence of Atlantic and Mediterranean climatic influences, allowing the expression of Bordeaux and Languedoc grape varieties with the legendary expertise of the Rothschild family.

The Vineyard

The vines dedicated to producing this Grand Vin Blanc 2023 flourish on clay-limestone soils, situated between 250 and 350 meters of altitude near Limoux. The average vine age of 17 years confers to this vin du Languedoc a beautiful aromatic maturity, while the favorable exposure and limestone nature of the soils bring characteristic minerality and freshness.

The Vintage

The year 2023 began with a mild, dry winter, promoting an early budburst of Chardonnay as early as March 20. Flowering took place during the last week of May, followed by significant rainfall in May–June accompanied by very warm temperatures. The summer experienced heatwaves, notably from August 17 to 24 with temperatures exceeding 43 °C. The white harvest took place from August 28 to September 8 under perfect sanitary conditions.

Vinification and Aging

The vinification of the Domaine de Baronarques Grand Vin Blanc 2023 favors a fruit-respecting approach. Aging is carried out over 8 months with 25 % new barrels.

Grape Variety

This vin de Limoux is the result of a blend of 97 % Chardonnay and 3 % Chenin.
